Best bottle (Ristorante da Salvo, Stuttgart): Quick & dirty: Tasted blind. Deep golden color. Warm, round, smoky nose, deep, sweet fruit. Classic Rheingau that gets better with time and air. On the palate very deep, round and balanced. With time it gets more mineral and complex. Lots of fine sweet fruit, some graprefruit. Good length. Joyful now, but also very advanced. This bottle will probably not last another decade. 93

This wine is quite outstanding. It combines awesome Nahe minerality with fullbodied Rheingau fruitiness. Peaches and other stonefruit in the bouquet comes to mind. The palete delivers quite a long lasting punch. I will look out for this wine.

Ridge Monte Bello, 1980-1999 (Chicago, IL): #06-15, 13% abv. A fairly taut and refreshing dry riesling, with a nice balance of fruit and acidity here. The fruit goes towards a bit of a yellow direction, but there is a nice roundness here that balances out the acidity. However, I did find this getting a little green and astringent on the back end. It's not so present as to render the wine unpleasant, but it is something that stuck out to me as I tasted it.

golden colour, intense peach scents with minerals and some citrus. Very good concentration and poise. This is untypical riesling because of the malolactic fermentation, but it is one of the best dry rieslings and better than much burgundy chardonnays with fourfold prices (minimum). If further cellaring provides more elegance and complexity, a nearly perfect score is not impossible. 96 points from TWA.
