2014 Felton Road Riesling Block 1

  • Nick's four wine pairs: Most of us thought this a NZ wine and we were quick to get to Block 1, one of the best NZ Rieslings. Oyster shells and minerals on the nose, with citric, orchard and some exotic fruit notes. Also fennel. The residual sugar on palate is a giveaway that the wine is the Block 1 (68 g/L). Very young and a little raw, that sugar needs 3+ years to integrate. Low alcohol (8.5%). Satiny, tactile texture with lemons and limes, peaches and hints of pineapple. A mineral acidic spine. Nervous and quite long. The vines here are now 22 years old. This Felton Road cuvée is going from strength to strength.
