  • Decanted 1 hr. ahead off of a bit of sediment. Very deep garnet with brick around the edges. Nice nose of red plums, black pepper, white pepper aka bramble, pine notes. Medium bodied on the palate, smoothed out from bottle age to a pleasing roundness. Some clear fruit flavors hang on. Finishes well with very low, near zero tannins. I rated this wine slightly higher years ago. The lower number today reflects my bias toward firm acidity.

  • If you were wondering about the viability of El Dorado county in the race to make great wines, here is one affirmative answer. Decanted 1:15 ahead. Very deep garnet color. Beautiful nose of black pepper, white pepper, herbs, pine, plum, and cherry, which should tell you something. Firm and lifted texture on the palate as acid levels are firm but not by any means tart. Earthy flavors along with dark red fruit. Finishes very well, with light grip, light-medium tannins, herbal waves, and a few metallic tones. It's not exactly going out on a limb to report that this is an excellent bottle that will probably improve for the next several years.
