  • Bright and sunny fruit, almost masculine body. Curiously lacking in minerality, felt a bit new world.

  • Gosh, quite different from a gloriously open and ethereal 5* bottle from the same case a couple of months ago. Far tighter, indeed less involved than the first from the case 30 months ago. Full garnet to mid ruby. Meaty, dense mid red fruit, good structure. Built for the future with tannin and acidity in step with the fruit. Lots of wine here, but not shining fully today. ****

  • A Ledbury Dinner: Mid to full garnet. Lovely nose of earthy red fruit and spice. Delicate, almost ethereal but with substance. Silky, cool mid red fruit, some sous bois, and a long, lingering finish. Absolutely gorgeous. Neither the power nor the density of the Chaignits alongside, but a masterclass in poise and elegance and an absolutely lovely drink. *****

  • Red fruit, earth, sweet sandalwood. I feel like I repeat myself when i drink Gibourg, with such strong house signatures. Palate shows more structure and restraint, not really seeing the ripeness of the vintage come through. Shocking, a gibourg was quite tasty... again...

  • Still relatively youthful. My experience is that the tannins are more prominent in the Rondes than the other M-G wines, and that is the case here. That said, with just a bit of air everything, including the structure, smooths out. Really great wine. Good bottles should have a long life.

  • Following on from the Chaignots a couple of weeks ago, first look at the MG 09 Vignes Rondes. A little more evolved, the fruit still plush but no longer primary, densely silky to finely velvety texture, and a lovely autumnal sense of sous bois and meaty development with a little air that made it a perfect foil for Tournedos Rossini. ****

  • Ripe, velvety, classic M-G style of Nuits meets Vosne but not as elegant as the Chaignots. Dark berry fruit. Quite inviting.

  • Decanted for half an hour. The wine shows great dark berry fruit, a tiny bit of Nuits structure/austerity but overridden by the lush vintage and Vosne producer style. Some nice sweetness emerging of black cherry fruit, salivating and mineral, some rosewater. Very very good and I preferred this by some margin over the Vosne village 06 and 07 had last week for what it is worth.

  • Blinded, and initially an explosion of flavors right off the bat. Red fruit, earth, hint of stem/oak. Palate had a sweet fruit note, with relatively high tannins. While blind, it was smelling aged, but doesn’t taste old given the structure. Revealed as a btl that had been heat damaged. That connects the dot with the fruit being stripped showing more tannins, but boy if someone didn’t tell me this was heat damaged, it was a pretty tasty burg.

  • Curiously, Gilman, Meadows and I all gave this the same score! This has grace and power with an enchanting depth of complexity and sophistication that is especially impressive on the finish.
