I bought 4 of these 20+ years ago and this was the best yet. Very mature Bordeaux, but was still showing ample cherry like flavors with a very smooth soft finish.

The wine was surprisingly drinkable. The cork was not soaked and there was only a minor amount of sediment. There were classic Bordeaux nuances with muted cherry fruit and a slight earthiness.

There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like forest floor, toast and leather. The body is medium/full. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. The wine was too old and the tannins were not well balanced.

Initially reticent on the nose, quickly opening up to a slightly musty/woody nose mixed with some graphite. Still has good fruit, some 'bottle sweetness', and smoky oak. After about 45 minutes, this took on a weird cheese note on the nose and the palate shut down a bit. Probably on the downslope of its evolution.

Similar note to the bottle I drank last year. Vibrant red color with muted fruit and a soft floral finish.

Dyp rød, brunsvartoransje. Varm stil, plomme, tobakk, stall, jern, litt toast. Litt hul, tyder på varm årgang. Tipper varm 80 talls Østside. 1989 Pessac Leognan er fasit. Brukbar tanninstruktur. Modent. 90

The cork was like new and came out with a startling pop. I decanted for 2 hours before trying.
A complex nose of leather, tobacco, cedar and black currant. As the wine opened, floral notes became more prominent.
The wine is medium bodied with black currant and leather. A nice finish of black spice. Still nicely acidic, tannins are present but very soft.
I bought this wine in 1993 as a bachelor. Four kids, two dogs, and a few pounds later, this wine is still respectable.
