  • Showed very well tonight. Opened to a hint to reduction. Almost a pale ruby shade, sweet strawberries, cherries, wilted roses, flinty, orange peel, well integrated oak spice. Fruits were showing very pure and sappy. With air it turned more serious, the fruits sweeter, and the bouquet more mellow. I can imagine this having been though some awkward phase before but the time to drink this is now and I wouldn’t wait on it. While comparisons with CLB were drawn, I thought this most reminded me of a Cathiard, with less extraction on the palate and more floral notes on the nose.

  • Dinner at Noz (Sushi Noz NYC): Single blinded against the 2014 CLB Chaumes

While it may have been single blind, it was obvious (mostly because of the CLB signature flavor profile). While easy to distinguish, the differences were instructive. While the CLB Chaumes is bright, inviting, and playful the Noellat Chaumes is brooding and a bit, almost, angry. The sense on the palate was that it had no desire to delight. After about 2 hours it opened up a little bit and showed more of its personality but it was just not game.

  • Pure, vibrant red fruits everywhere here. A hint of oak that is more polished than anything. Great bottle.
