Light to medium translucent ruby. Nose of smokey oak, tart cherry, earth and maybe a hint of coffee. Weightier on the palate than the wine looks. Nice rounded flavors, a bit racy and a bit peppery. Good depth and balance. Great with a pan seared veal chop. Lots of cherry on the finish. A little unusual but not overdone in any way and interesting layers of flavor.

2013 Post IPNC Tasting of 2004 OR Pinot (Matello Winery): Soaring, amazing nose! tons of dried flowers and herbs, everything from rosemary to roses. I could have spent the rest of the afternoon nosing this wine and been perfectly happy. Worth the price of admission just to smell it. On the palette, great earthy, Burgundian feel. a bit dirty, but in the right way. I'd score this wine very highly. Not sure it will evolve much more though, it's just in a spectacular place right now. Easily my wine of the flight and my wine of the night. I guessed Evesham Wood Cuvee J (and was obviously wrong).
Post IPNC blind 2004 Oregon Pinot Noir tasting (Matello): Tasted at a large 2004 Oregon Pinot Noir tasting, this was easily my wine of the night. The nose was practically jumping out of the glass, spiced cherries, cola, pie cherry and ripe grapefruit. On the palate, youthful flavors of spiced ripe cherries, strawberry and grapefruit. As the wine finishes, some richness from age is apparent. Weighty palate but balanced as far as flavor intensity and structure. Long, linear finish. This wine was on another level from the wines in this flight, and the entire tasting. Absolutely wonderful. 93+

Light to medium garnet as Pinot noir based wines should be in my opinion. Nose is of cherry, toasty oak and a hint of tobacco. Reasonable life left I think. Palate was smooth and rich reflecting the nose with some added spice box and chocolate. Nice complexity and length.

Dark plum red color with limited transparency. Aromas of coffee, dried herbs, tar, and cherry. Palate shows coffee and cherry elements and broadens with some air time in the glass. Tannins creep into a medium finish. This needs some more time to unwind but is drinkable now. Drink or hold.

Nice color, scents of red and dark berry fruits. Tastes of bramble and perhaps earth, stem with some spice and red and dark fuits like boysenberry. Perhaps a bit short on the finish but nice weight, balance, and acidity. Not sure how much whole cluster there is here but I suspect some. Still has good fruit though..

A Burgundian style Pinot Noir. Polished, Complex, round and subtle, with remarkable presence. Shows beautiful plum, strawberry, earth notes, and sweet spice flavors that linger effortlessly on the refined finish. - JD92

Nose of sweatsocks, intially accompanied by gasoline which gave way after about 10 minutes to sour cherries. Complex palate dominated by sour cherries with hints of earth, saffron and pine needles lingering in the background. Very good.

Another good 04 Oregon Pinot - round, understated, a bit of earthiness and the right amount of sugar.
