  • Clear deep black cherry; clean medium plus nose of cassis, new leather, black licorice, balsamic and cocoa; dry; high acidity; medium plus tannins; high alcohol; medium plus body; pronounced flavour intensity; palate is big, bold and juicy with cocoa and cassis dominating; long finish; drink now or in 5 years; this is a delicious, powerhouse wine that we blinded as a Napa Cab

  • In my opinion, too much new oak.
This oak did a massive disservice to the beauty of this fruit in many ways.
Maybe, degusting at this stage, being too young was cause for this, but having enjoyed plenty of neutral oak matured wine, I can safely say that this quality was indeed tainted with that ridiculous vanilla that didn't need to be there. Seriously, who needs vanilla with delicious crushed rocks, spice and blackberry?
Yes, it has a modern northern Rhone appeal, but please let's keep it to neutral oak. Give those barrels away for 4 years.
There was a delish roasted meat quality, crushed rocks, dense wild ripe blackberry that had soft tannic clout but all the while tainted with vanilla.

  • Well rounded with solid fruit, but not a huge wine.

  • A nice effort. Not heavy and dark like a typical Syrah that can be a little too much sometimes.

  • Bought this at the tasting room. My first Syrah from one of my favorite RR producers. I buy a lot of their Pinot, Chard and old vine Zin. Now Jeff and Don are making syrah? oh the confusion, the decisions I will have to make. Where do I make room in the cellar? What wines do I displace to start holding on to these? I have to do something as this stuff is really good and I will need to buy more if they make more.
Smooth, round and soft not angular. Tannins well integrated but present showing off mountainside vineyard or some whole cluster press. Dark fruits, some game and tobacco on the nose. Nice spicy finish that lasted 35-40 seconds. could hold for at least another 5-7 years but very enjoyable now. May rate a higher score in a coupe of years when Tannin softens.

  • 1h decant. Dense opaque crimson color. Mouth coating savory red fruits; redcurrant. Hints of tapenade. Seamless tannin. Perky acidity. I adored this and now I remember why I bought it from the tasting room.
