Wendouree survey (Chicago, IL): A bit light on its feed, with sweeter red fruit here. Not quite as elegant as the best examples tonight, in that it feels a little clunky with the tannins, but certainly clean and bright. A slight feral tone here, likely thanks to the mourvedre.

Pale to medium ruby in the glass. Lovely red and plum fruit driven aroma with some liquorice and menthol. Upon tasting it is immediately evident that this is a wine of high calibre; beautifully smooth, fantastic balance of fruit and savoury elements. Seductive and elegant front and middle palate with a long finish showing some chewy tannins and cedar wood. Drinking well already but expect further benefits from more patient cellaring (it was my last)!

It is really starting to hit its straps now and has opened up beautifully. Lovely concentrated fruits, spice notes from the Mataro. Very balanced wine, with the slight hint of tannin with superb length on the finish. An excellent bottle. It requires a good decant, it has a very heavy sediment/crust.

Fine tannin, lighter than their older vintages, mataro pronounced. Decanted for 4 hours, but felt I wan't tasting the expression, so took a punt on leaving it out overnight. That was a good move. Came into its own, big on front and mid-pallette, but certainly shorter than I'd have expected. Savoury, not fruit dominated. Suspect it needs another 5 years.

First one of my 2013's. Medium bodied with a lovely perfumed nose. The palate shows a spectrum of plum type fruit, red berries, liquorice, spice and a touch of raspberry type tartness. With more time in the decanter the palate continues to open up showing a lovely core of fruit filling the middle palate. I like the savoury ‘tone’ of the wine, certainly no jammy type flavours. I liked the balance between the elegant fruit, bright type acidity and a grippy tannin profile. The finish is long & lingering. This requires a good decant of at least 2 hours minimum prior to consumption. Needs far more time in the cellar.

Beautiful wine that drinks very well now after a decant, but likely to improve a fair bit over the next five to 10 years. Dark red to black in colour, gorgeous perfumed nose with hints of gum leaf. On the palate, plums, blackberry, liquorice, vanilla, pepper and spices and hints of red berries. Fine grippy tannins that coat the roof of the mouth and a very long finish indeed.

Wendouree 2013s and assorted other bottles: Blackberry, licorice, plum and mild spice. The palate lacks a bit in interest and doesn't really have the layers of some of the other wines in the 2013 lineup. It's still quite good but doesn't thrill at this stage.

Deliciously round and full, reckon more room in it yet. Berries, slightly floral lift to the end
