I admit to some sentimentality with Vernaccia di San Gimignano because I have been there and had it there at some outdoor restaurant beneath those towers. That was a long time ago, but fortunately our taste buds let us travel back in time. I like this rendition of it. There may be better, but this is fine. It is a slightly acidic, thirst-quenching wine that quaffes well on its own but is good with chicken with sauce, pasta, etc. meals that need something that can cut through. It is not a great wine - does not dance on the tongue like a really marvelous wine. But it tastes very Italian and serves its purpose well.

Medium yellow. Not much aroma. Medium weight, some gloss. Subdued underripe pineapple and some soil at the end. Just bland, neutral wine.

Pleasant nose of elderflower and lemon. Light and crisp with grassy notes and a mineral driven finish.

The first DOCG in Italy. Smells a touch like poopy diaper. Mineral, lemon funk.
