  • Nose of dark berries with pronounced scent of gardenia. An interesting mix of flavors, dark red and black berries, pine, and tar with a floral note on the lengthy finish. Medium weight, savory with a significant punch of acid, yet still balanced. Should easily provide enjoyment 10 years from date of vintage.

Funnily enough, my last note suggested pairing with brisket and I happened to open with smoked brisket tonight...worked well together.

  • Consistent with my experience from December 2017. As with my previous note, I found this quite enjoyable, particularly on day two, where the wine was more a bit more restrained and food friendly. On the other hand, day one would be a perfect foil for BBQ ribs or brisket.

No rush to drink; very good value.

  • Nose of dark red and black berries with an intense perfume of white flowers. Dark and savory on the palate with creosote, pine and plenty of acidic lift. Medium bodied and ready to go on pop and pour. In a lovely spot, but will continue to improve. Day 2, the wine became more restrained and more integrated. If you're serving with lighter dishes, open the night before, or give a good decant.

    Drink through 2023+.

  • Nicely perfumed with notes of Red/purple fruit and flowers. Red and purple fruits with some forrest floor and creosote. Med+ body, good acidity with approachable tannins. Balanced with a floral note on the med+ finish. Drinking well now.

  • A little closed at first, but it's opening up to a nice peppery Syrah. Dark cherry and fresh plum, hints of licorice as well. Nice.

Didn't change much with about 3 hours of air. Went well with smoked ribs.

  • Popped a cork at lunch today as a friend was going to be having major surgery in a few days...

I was surprised at how much this wine developed over the past few months, with the fruit growing darker, shading to black and gaining complexity, while retaining a nice savory quality. Medium bodied, with good acid and, to my palate, on the upswing.

  • Pours a deep purple with a magenta colored rim. Intermingled scents of purple fruits, blue flowers and forest floor.

The palate generally follows the nose. Savory and well-concentrated, this medium+ bodied wine has a nice acidic lift that keeps everything in good balance. The tannins already seem fairly smooth, but I think that this wine should age for several years, gaining complexity and weight. Enjoyable now and will get even better. 13.8% abv.
