A bottle opened and drunk after 2 hours air. Huge concentration and structure, potentially a great wine but in need of more cellar time. Very intense and powerful. Lemony, mineral and tactile. The last glass drunk the next evening exactly the same. Tight and closed. Ideally hold until 2027+. (94-96+).

Fantastic wine. Tightly coiled and reduced initially but with some air, it blossomed with lemon and crushed rocks. Very mineral on the palate, with great acidity and long persistence. Excellent wine with years to go.

Golden in color in the glass with a small meniscus. Showing some age on the nose, with butterscotch and almond paste dominating, much to my surprise. Fantastic in the mouth. Vibrant lemon-lime and minerality mixed together, with those flavors lingering over a very long finish. Delicious. From a 750 purchased on release.

Restaurant purchase 375 ml. First bottle was oxidized; second was in good shape. Perfume on the nose with occasional hints of licorice and a big rich wide mouth filling waxy savory palate and a finish that goes on forever.

Tasted out of a split … it hit all the right notes. Always nervous with all the premox problems but this was a perfect bottle. Very good weight, the right balance of acidity (citrus fruits ) with this amazing minerality. Loved this wine.

Lately, every time I open a bottle of a Boillot white burgundy I get very nervous. It’s been hit or miss whether or not they’ve been pre-moxed. This bottle, happily, was beautiful, with an expressive nose of penetrating green fruit, baking spice and abundant minerality, all of which carry thru to the bold, lean, well delineated palate along with a bracing acidic core.

From 375. This is stunning. Fully mature and with a long drinking plateau ahead of it. It’s hard to find fault with this. Full bodied and delicious. Long finish.

From magnum, color was darker than it should have been. Lacked the tension of great 2014’s and fruit was muted. Drinkable but clearly premature oxidation is an issue for this wine, and even magnums lack the freshness they should have.

Decanted for 1.5 hours. Served blind. Matchstick, sulphur based reduction hiding some lemon fruit and spice. Very bold, in your face nose, not as flinty as Coche or PYCM but in their zip code. Guessed Bouchard (based on recent 14s that are very reductive). Rich palate, crunchy ripe fruit, very clenched and structured. Drying finish. I guessed 2014 Corton Charlie from Bouchard, missed the producer but got vintage and vineyard right.

Lots of matchstick going on here on the nose. Very good acidity, vibrant intensity, butter, minerals, quite tight, certainly on the young side. Wait for it. 94+ point #Ib

'99 Red Burgundy Tasting: Upon first pour it tasted like a taut example of the stellar '14 vintage, but in short order began fading. This was so much rounder and less structured than it should have been, polar opposite to the '14 PYCM CC tasted recently. The wine started a firestorm of conversation at the table: we are not out of the premox woods yet friends, '14's may yet be victims.

Premox. When a 2014 White Burg has such nutty aromas I call a spade a spade, even though if some of my white Burg fan colleagues at the table (as so often) want to argue themselves out of the embarrassing situation.
big wine. Heavy reduction on the nose and palate. Not as open and clean as the bottle opened late last year. Took a hour to get more vibrant and filled with lemon custard and wood. picked up that acid and big bodied richness that Boillot is known for. Expected a bit more electricity.

Tasted along with a 14’ Domaine Rollin CC. Notably darker in color than the Rollin. More tannic and brash on the nose, with pronounced butter and some buttered popcorn. Shows solid freshness on the palate however, and while the oak is still fairly brash it’s better integrated in the mouth, showing plenty of cream on top, but with a solid mineral underbelly. As could be guessed the Boillot has broader shoulders, making it slightly bigger on the back and through the finish, as if there was an effort to beefen up this lighter grand cru. Respectable showing, though wanted a slightly purer, more elegant rendition.

Twenty Eight - 2018: As usual, signature matchstick and sulfuric aromas on the nose. Unlike the 2011 we tasted side-by-side, this wine was less layered and complex. Instead, it was much softer and approachable. It’s a fine wine and certainly enjoyable, but it currently lacks the depth and memorable notes the 2011 has.

This was very pleasant, balanced, medium acidity, a bit of richness but not overwhelming. Overall though it felt a bit shutdown/tight and wasn't giving too much. Was consumed pop and pour from the bottle, I think it really needs a decant and/or more time.

Taste: Full bodied with high acidity. The acidity is racy and youthful with the feel showing a lot of depth and density. The structure shows off a lot of youth along with meyer lemons, red apples, warm oils, roasted nuts, and cream tones.
Overall: This is extremely young, but it can be a real stunning Corton-Charlemagne. It has a ton right now and would need some air to show, but it would benefit from 3-5+ years of aging to really show itself.

Heritage 2016 Blind Wine Tasting Challenge - Grand Finale (Jean Georges Steakhouse - ARIA - Las Vegas NV): Tasted double blind. Floral and ripe orchard fruit with baked apple hints. Very long and powerful. Immediately recognized as white Burgundy, and incredibly similar to the Boillot '14 CC served at the prior blind tasting a few weeks back. Upon reflection I thought it slightly riper, so changed my answer from 2014 to 2012.

Heritage Blind Tasting (Chicago, IL): Served double-blind. Easily identified as white Burgundy. Just a light touch of reduction, which led me to my favourite producers. Given that the oak use here was relatively light, I thought this was more Roulot than Boillot, and guessed 2013 Roulot Luchets. I think the hint that should have driven me to a higher grade wine was the richer backend, which had a very light caramel note.

Heritage 2016 Blind Wine Tasting Challenge - Chicago "Regional" (The Boarding House - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind. Rich and gloriously floral. I immediately thought it Grand Cru Burgundy from a good, rich vintage, but also thought it fully integrated so thought 2008. Richness and fat made me think this from Batard-Montrachet, but slightly modern style and meticulous technique make me think Henri Boillot. My only really good performance of the 8 wines.

ultra powerful concentration on the palate but with a ton of energy and tension running through that uplifts it and keeps it from getting heavy. Super vibrant and expressive for a wine so young.
