Sometimes, you find a bottle you had forgotten you had, realize you should have drunk it years ago, and are very pleasantly surprised by how it held up. This was not one of those times. My fault for not drinking this a decade ago, but now a brown sherry color, apple juice on the nose and a sour taste.

This bottle isn't as far gone as the last, but still past its prime. Deep yellow gold in color. Primary aromas are sweet red apples and nuttiness, with a little sherry note. Same on the palate; palatable but not ideal.

Still a solid riesling - likely past prime but still interesting for both nose and mouth. Medium body but with plenty of acid remaining and the start of oily-richness on the palate.

Normally I can keep Jean Baptiste nine or ten years, but this year had a plastic cork and it tastes prematurely aged. Just drinkable now. Do not keep any longer.

A great example of how such a simple wine can be very effective. The Jean Baptiste is Gunderloch's entry level kabinett (medium dry) offering that retails for about $25 in Australia. The off-dry riesling fruits are very settled and balanced yet show no kero, despite the age, rather just pure sweet citrus riesling fruits. I was quite surprised at the quality of the showing. Great value.

Really quite nice. I've gone through quite a few of these. Comes across as "sweeter" than most Kabinett level wines. Waxy, with primary aromas and flavours of ripe pears. Nice acidity. Great with food.

Interestingly not as good as many of the QBA 2001 rieslings I have tried. Very pale yellow, smells of apples an minerals. light flavors of apple, melon, lemon. Has a bit of a bitter finish though and comes across overly acidic.

Fermented apple juice and sherry on the nose. Heavily oxidized.

Some nice fruit at first seems a bit thin in the middle and a short finish.

Wasn't too impressed with this one a bit weak and watery.
