Men denne ordinære Cotes du Rhone'n i sitt 13. år er fortsatt i betydelig grad i live og klarer å påkalle både interesse og litt beundring. Og at akkurat denne flasken har overlevd rundt 10 år stående i romtemperatur i et kleskott er i seg selv beundringsverdig!

Medium ruby to pink on the edge. Served up some mineral fleck, iron, and hints of dark plum on the nose. Medium bodied, this was a bit austere and lean, with sour cherry, garrigue and a touch too much alcohol on the palate. Last bottle of a case, overall these were excellent QPR wines best at their youth to 5 years out, ranging from the upper 80s to 90ish early to mid 80s now. Highly recommend drinking up.

Lasagna dinner with the girls. Effusive cherry and earth aromas give way to a nice crisp if slightly acidic mouthfeel of mineral, sour cherry, cassis. This bottle is much better with more fruit than the one we last had several months ago. Mature finish of dried cherry and dust portends a short future. A great QPR and fine table wine.

A bit flat, tired and lackluster. I guess I held it too long. I had originally given it an 80. I went back to it a few hours later. I bumped it up to an 82. Some fruit and minerality there, but it is simply a nutral, mediocre table wine. Its price was low I recall, so maybe that was its intent. I've opened several hundred bottles the past three years, mostly Cab, Syrah, Pinot and Zin. Only one French wine has held a candle to the California style. So. it must be the style,

Bought a case at release @ $7.50 per and can't beat the QPR. They were passively stored in 50s to 60s cellar. A nice drinker in it's time, however the fruit has faded, leaving a fairly neutral wine at present. Minimal nose, slight earth and dark fruit elements. Virtually no attack and mid-palate, but the signature terrior minerality is still there. Decent wine now if you want something very neutral and smooth. Fruit as I remember it has faded for sure and left skeletal remains. Have 2 bottles left, will consume sooner rather than later.

This was a surprise. I had the wine a few weeks ago and was not wowed. Tonight I popped the cork and poured. I had along with shortribs...It was a perfect match. Spice and cherry with a little rhone 'stink' on the nose. Very smooth with some sweetness and a very pleasant finish. Not an overly complex wine, but nonetheless, quite enjoyable.

The score may suggest otherwise for those who think anything less than a 90 is undrinkable, but this wine has been a pleasant experiment. This is my final bottle, fully mature and at a plateau, but not yet in decline. The fruit, herb, and garrigue combination is simple, but delicious, and befitting the wine's stature - hardly profound, yet delightfully non-pretentious. The color is still a vibrant ruby, the nose a spicy cherry, and the finish clean if short. A great drinker with chicken thighs and Herbs du Provence. This bottle is always a worthwhile and consistent QPR.

Still holding on very well. Color is garnet red; palate is very smooth, balanced and integrated with tannins now in the background. Still good fruit, and while it isn't going to improve any, it is a great bottle to have with roast chicken & the like. No complaints.

The wine showed quite well for a five yeae old Cotes du Rhone. Very pleasant with a moderate finsih of plum and maybe a hint of cherry. Initially the finish seemed relatively short, but after a few short ninutes of air the palate seemed to open nicely. Went very nicely with boneless butterflied prokchops stuffed with goose liver pate.

We had one of these bottles a year ago. I'm surprised that it held up so well. The basic personality of this wine, a bit coarse and acidic has not changed but it is also still a food friendly wine. Went very well, gained sweetness with the chicken and spicy Italian sausage/fettucine dish. I don't think I'll hold onto my last bottle though, it will get drunk this winter. I'm interested in trying some more recent vintages of this reasonably priced Rhone wine.

Disappointing. Mediocre. Thin, dilute, no fruit, no mid-palate. Finish dissolves into nothing. That this producer used inferior fruit is obvious, or it was a very wet vintage.

Drank 1/2 tonight - not decanted. Opened this after some of the other posts suggested a downward decline.
The colour was still young, showing only a little bricking on the rim. Initially had quite a complex nose, showing hints of smoke and game, along with some berry and plum fruit - lost a lot of aroma quite quickly however. Dry with decent acidity over the blackberry and plummy fruit. Dry, juicy plummy, cherry finish.
This however did seem to flesh out a litle bit after an hour or so of airing. Interesting to see whether the other half falls apart or not.

Solid effort and a very typical euro wine. I got if for $5 so how could I go wrong. Much better than the 01 and is drinking well now. Tobacco, black current and slight tannins make this a very drinkable wine.

very light nose, initially quite coarse but with air and food (pork roast with a gorgonzola mustard gravy) it gained sweetness. Tart and astringent, where's the fruit. am interested to try it tomorrow and see what develops. the fruit is definitely hidden.
