Tasted alongside the 2000 which had gone full tierary and lacking fruit but the 2005 was holding up much better with a great balance of fruit & tierary notes and perfect now or to keep a little longer if needed

Smells of dark ripe berries, raisins. Medium body, feels cool in style. Light and distinct tannins at finish, quite well balanced. I’m sure it still has a long way to go (5-10 years).

At it’s peak: Tannic with light to medium body with prominent earth, gravel, aged stone fruit, black tea, pepper, and black currant notes. Drink now as it has peaked and is already on it’s gradual downturn.

pound for pound this has to be one of the bargains of the 2005 vintage - still in its youth, this is packed through with classic Bordeaux notes but never overdone. Firm tannins, a fresh finish but backed up with enough dark fruits to think this has time on its side. Stunning value - a 10 euro purchase on release.

Confirming the good vintage level and reliable quality of the property this bottle offers a lot of drinking pleasure, combining smooth, well matured fruit, cedar, liquroice, pepper, cocoa and tea. Well structured, medium bodied, with a silky finish. No hurry - can drink over the coming 5 years.

Surprising amount of bottle variation, my previous bottle was lifeless and uninteresting. This is pretty juicy and pleasant. Cassis and some red fruit with a liquorice bitter edge. Belies its age and feels fairly youthful, no need to drink up I think this will last (depending upon the bottling).

Day long decant. Deep purple, full bodied wine Stewed fruit, leather notes, lingering licorice notes Smooth, mature fruits and tannin. Easy drinking. Not as bold as what it appeared like in the glass. As the wine got to ambient room temperature, it seemed to get a little thin on the finish. Taste follows the nose. A nice little bottle. I would drink up now. This will not go the long distance.

Ruby red in colour. Notes of plum, leather and spice. Dry, med body, med acidity, smooth tannins. I agree with earlier note. Lots of the fruit seems to have been lost. Still nice, but a few years past its prime in my opinion.

Not bad, but this tasted much better a few years ago. The promising fruit has disappeared rather than developed and the tannins are still present, leaving a sensation of dryness.

Served blind, I thought this was a 10 yr Tempranillo rioja with some smoky cherry flavors. This tastes younger than 13. In quite a sweet spot right now and an absolute bargain @$20 2 years ago. After an hour the finish seemed to dry out a bit though

Decanted for an hour. Quite expressive on the nose with nice cassis, bit of licorice, sandalwood, got an aged feeling to it. The palate is very dry, tannins, acidic, some red fruit peeking through. This is definitely a food wine, and indeed with a roast of roe deer, this gains body and the fruit comes to the fore, very nice! This is at a good spot for me, I wouldn't age it for much longer.

If not quite as stellar as the last, this has developed well. The fruit is darker and deeper than usual with an almost smokiness to it, which is not unpleasant. Good grip and structure, with a long, persistent finish. It may not improve further but there’s nothing to suggest it will drop away either. Excellent example of Citran.

Clear, medium, ruby in appearance. The nose is clean with med(+) intensity. The palate is dry, with med acidity, high tannins, med(+) alcohol, full body, med(+) intensity, and a long finish. Notes of black cherry and plum, jam, violet, a slight herbaceousness, clove, charred wood, cooked red plums, and a little prune.

Ooof - much richer and less ready than the previous bottle. This has a very pronounced oaky finish and rugged tannins. Some bottle variation here (not in a bad way) - some just appear more ready than others. Stupidly good value for money.
Rewards decanting. Still young in appearance with a clean dark red and purple colour. Dry red with a Herbal nose and notes of plum. Palate is tannic with some Black pepper. Tannins will continue to soften over the next few years. Certainly no hurry to drink this.

This is just getting into its stride and is drinking well at the moment and should continue to do so for some years yet. It's a fruit driven wine with lots of cassis on the nose and in the mouth. it's not overly complex but is a very solid claret especially given its modest price.

Absolutely bang on the money - has the depth of 2005 and the freshness the keep this an honest lunchtime claret. And it is classic claret - all balance, not showy. All the talk of the exalted wines from this region sometimes drowns out that great wines such as this can be snapped up for a relative bargain.

Belle couleur rubis profond, ocelle aqueuse, assez mobile.

This was a revelation, after several bad vintages of Citran tasted recently. Bright, arresting notes of blackberry and blueberry on the nose, with an initially tannic attack of the same. After a few hours however, the wine opened up to reveal some of the most intense fruit flavours I've ever had from Citran, backed up with grip and structure, but not without the usual charm and elegance. The finish is long too, so overall a very impressive wine, the best since the 96.

drank 1.14 decanted for 90 min, put back into bottle drank over 2 days * perfect cork
color - still very youthful looking, not inky but deep and quite nice nose - right off the bat, very expressive. classic claret with notes of ripe cherries, some plum, notes of oak / vanilla but very integrated (this is bourdeaux ) this is starting to show some secondary notes with loose tobacco, spice box and hints of earth palate - the palate is following the nose with nice dark cherry, plums, clove and good freshness. the acidity and tannins have melted in with the fruit. fine length and very nice balance. the tannins in this are a bit less aggressive than i imagined. dusty and descent grip.
note - this o5 is in a really nice place. i would drink this now until 2017. if you have a few bottles, surely open one now. if you have one, open in 2015 or so. also, this entry level type brdx really goes to show how awesome o5 brdx is. i am slowly drifting from buying brdx and when i open even simple btl like this, i can only imagine what the more major bottles that i have purchased. bottles like this also show that if you have space, buying btls like this from vintages like this, is very worth the time and money. i think i paid about $17 for this in o7 and can run you about 12 euros in EU. i should have bought more of these.

Popped and poured at cellar temp, very impatient of me. The nose is very nice, with good cassis and a bit of barnyard. The palate follows with excellent fruit , good tannins, perhaps a bit of a hard edge to it from youth. This has potential down the road, give it a few more years in the cellar.

Tasted non blind at home. Slow-oxed for a couple of hours then splash decanted for another hour or so. Very primary nose of briar patch, green peppers and a hint of dark fruit. The tannins come on strong and dominate the palate but the finish gives some hints as to what this one will be like in a few years. Long finish with blackberries, cassis, spicy cedar and a hint of tar. Very good QPR, hold for 2-3 years.

With a 30 minute decant, opens to something pretty special. Cedar, blue fruit, cherry undertones, excellent with traditional fare.

Belle couleur rubis profond, ocelle aqueuse, assez mobile.

Ripe plummy cru bourgeois. Tastes younger, though drinking fine right now. Exactly what it should be. Very nice.

The finish is long too, so overall a very impressive wine, the best since the 96.

red colour - touch fading
smells q. mature, tobacco
very grippy initially
def. needs food and decanting. Still young.
Long finish, touch of vanilla at the end
Not terribly friendly at the moment. I'd wait a bit.

Decanter for an hour.
Lovely dark colour. On the nose, aromas of tobacco & dark cherry.
On the palate, lovely soft tannins, very rounded flavour, great balance in accompaniment with steak.

drank 1.14
decanted for 90 min, put back into bottle
drank over 2 days
* perfect cork
color - still very youthful looking, not inky but deep and quite nice
nose - right off the bat, very expressive. classic claret with notes of ripe cherries, some plum, notes of oak / vanilla but very integrated (this is bourdeaux ) this is starting to show some secondary notes with loose tobacco, spice box and hints of earth
palate - the palate is following the nose with nice dark cherry, plums, clove and good freshness. the acidity and tannins have melted in with the fruit. fine length and very nice balance. the tannins in this are a bit less aggressive than i imagined. dusty and descent grip.
note - this o5 is in a really nice place. i would drink this now until 2017. if you have a few bottles, surely open one now. if you have one, open in 2015 or so. also, this entry level type brdx really goes to show how awesome o5 brdx is. i am slowly drifting from buying brdx and when i open even simple btl like this, i can only imagine what the more major bottles that i have purchased. bottles like this also show that if you have space, buying btls like this from vintages like this, is very worth the time and money. i think i paid about $17 for this in o7 and can run you about 12 euros in EU. i should have bought more of these.

Classic claret nose, mineral and sharp cassis/ lip smacking acidity, good tannin and length/ 13% this did battle with a steak, drank very well, I'm looking forward to the next bottle. In time an easy 90 point wine.

Expressive nose of ripe blackcurrants with hints of plums and berries. Firm structure with medium body and adequate, smooth tannin. Ripe black fruits well balanced by refreshing acidity. Typical Bordeaux style. Ready to drink and decant is not really necessary in my case.

Bordeaux Today (2005s) (Wine Exchange - Orange, CA): Dark red purple with pleasant red currant aroma. Sweet savory red fruit along with soft supple tannins on the palate. This wine is somewhat light but it will make an undeniably good lunch claret. Good.

BORDEAUX 2005 / Cabernet rules; 4/5/2006-4/10/2006 (Bordeaux): A woody nose and the palate is somewhat angular. There is fruit, but the tannins are also a bit dry and the tannins tough. Cross your fingers with aging. 86- 88+
