1 hr decant. Coffee and blackberry notes jump from the glass and follow through to the palate. Tannins have resolved largely but what remains are entirely smooth. Long finish.

Better than my last tasting > 1 year ago, this smells like mountain fruit (this is from Soda Mountain a site that they tried to replicate the elevation of their estate vineyard), there is a seemingly endless blackberry finish. This is a youngster without a doubt, and even compared to the 2013 MM on the same day, this requires more air to fully open up. As ridiculous as it sounds - hold - or a very lengthy decant.

Deep purplish ruby red. Rich nose with dark cocoa, blueberries, pencil shavings, gravel, and perfume. Heavy tannins (7/10) and full bodied. Approachable for being Mountain fruit and so young. Layered palate with some dark mountain berries, dusty notes, dark cocoa, and a little powdery mouthfeel. Lovely long and integrated finish. Drink till 2030.

This is a refined delicious wine from Sam Kaplan sourced from Soda Mountain. It is deep and brooding - it is tight on opening, but opens within 15 minutes in the glass, the transformation is very, very impressive. Cassis, blueberry, feels almost integrated even this early on. Can't wait to see what happens over the next decade.
A baby of beautiful pedigree. Though restrained and in a bit of a dumb phase, the tremendous structure shows clearly. Deep red fruit and a nice floral aspect, with a compelling texture that will soften over time. Well done indeed.

Ready to drink. Doesn't need much air.

Really beautiful fruit and perhaps past its peak by a couple years.
