Opened and let it breathe for 2 hours. Full bodied taste with strong fruit, but not over bearing. Nice lingering taste. Don't expect it to get better but should last well for at least 2 years.

Dark fruits, liquorice, oak, vanilla with a good acidity.
Seghesio succeeds with their premium Zinfandel wines where others fail.
While containing the trademark ripe sweet dark fruit of Zinfandel it retains acidity, focus and nuance.
Wholly recommend premium Seghesio Zinfandel such as 'Cortina' 'Rockpile' or 'Old vine' as a must-try of the American Zins before abandoning the grape as a whole.

A nice deep purple body with a magenta rim. Wonderful nose of cherries, cassis, vanilla, licorice, dark chocolate, sweet tobacco. Medium full bodied with beautifully integrated sweet tannins. This has a deft touch, with a mineral spine that drives the finish keeping it deceptively light for such a big wine.

Big fruit with tons of prickly spice. Tobacco and dark brooding berries on the front; a middle that tingles the tongue and stays with you through the fruit and mellow tannin on the end.

Lush, rich and round black raspberry and dark fruits underpinned with peppery spice and an endless finish. Full but light on the palate, beautifully balanced. One of my favorites among the Seghesio lineup.

Dark spice blends with the blackberry fruit and then you add in pepper and a long finish. Ok, plus a touch of anise, just a bare touch, and a bit of red fruit on the tip of your tongue. Always like Rockpile and this vintage is no exception.

Fabulous. Even though it's only a 2014, it has a smoothness like a much older wine - very reminiscent of the St. Francis Pagani Vineyard Zin. Seghesio is always great, this steps it up another notch.

Similar from previous note. Has become noticeably brighter and more peppery while the depth of the wine has increased. More flavors are nuanced seemingly in every sip. Marvelous with hearty dishes and outstanding on its own.

Bright and racy that seemingly grows in complexity with every sip. Cinnamon and licorice build upon solid cherry and raspberry notes where crushed rock and spice make it all more and more compelling. Dark fruit and spice tones linger on the finish. Another homerun from Seghesio.

This seems like a classic example of California Zin: complex, strong, resounding, and long lasting. There is a notable cocoa and blackberry taste that goes along with the flinty, inky, stony aftertaste. Extremely good. Drank with pork Carnitas and homemade corn tortillas - a nice pairing.

Bought at the winery, was my favorite of their zins. Dark cherries dominates the palate. Smooth and rich. I doubt that it needs to age, good to go now.

This drank very well but came after several other wines so can't give it a definitive numeric rating, but certainly 90+

Brambly fruit, plum, vanilla...a steely note, for me. Lush, with a hint of tannin to balance it all out.
