Fat, rich, ripe, lush, round, forward and ready to go with its licorice, espresso, smoke and inky, black cherry core. Drink it now, or age for a few years.

Welcome to Merlot Al Dente #Bdx15 - and other tales from Saint Emilion (Bordeaux, actually tasted during en primeur week): This is pretty tasty, smooth, maybe lacking a bit of punch. Not bad though, as it is more rounded with smooth tannins. Then, tasted at Ulysses Cazabonne, I am rather surprised by the elegance coming through here, as I was expecting more oak staves. Really nicely done, and – as has been reported – a slight change in style for the better. Ok, slightly drying on the finish, but not too much! Bravo! 89-92

Showing smoke, licorice, espresso bean and dark plums, this wine is fat, forward, lush and low in acid, finishing with dense, dark, plump, red and black fruits.

Better freshness coming out of Saint Emilion (Actually two locations: UGCB in New York (1/2018) and in Saint Emilion (12/2017)): Here we have a modern style in the negative sense of the word. The tannins are hard and the finish dries out with oak derived tannins. The blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged in 80% new oak and clocks in at 14% alcohol. Not my style.

Huge nose of black ripe cherries, cedar wood, BBQ beef… Deliciously ripe, black cherries, good length, super silky tanins… A great discovery!!
