Dinner with Marie Andree Mugneret (Buona Terra): Pronounced aroma of earth, leather, blueberry, mint, incense, pure on the palate but not showing much in flavours, spice, lavender, fine silky tannins with good acidity.

TBC - Unsurprisingly most complex wine of the line up after the villages and 1er Cru. Combination of black fruits as expected from 15 and interspersed red fruit. Super nose. This is very early days for this as the nice tannic grip suggests. Marie-Andree Mugneret telling the story how they got hold of the Ruchottes together with Charles Rousseau.

Well I really screwed this one up. Based on a miscommunication between me and my wife, we opened this instead of a Riesling that had a few years of bottle age. What frustrated me the most were the secondary and tertiary flavor notes I was getting. The most prevalent was an earthy, mushroomy, umami note. I can only imagine what this could have been. A very costly mistake.

2015 Ruchottes and 2015 Echezeaux side by side. Clearly a step up to Grand Cru, and both were packed, dense, and in need of time. The Ruchottes was more approachable (relatively) and more enjoyable at this point. The development of 2015’s over time will be interesting, and quite possibly frustrating, given their expected long development trajectory.

Opulent perfumed sexy red spice aromas in a beguiling style. Rich spicy succulent red fruits with pretty spices and long finish. Spectacular potential, yet already so enjoyable.

This was opened about 3 hours before we tasted it. Clear deep ruby. Berry fruit, some gentle green herbs, and rising soil. This is big and rich for a Gevrey Grand Cru, no doubt about that, yet it is in no way too heavy or overblown. Gorgeous predominantly dark red fruit complemented by blood orange, strong, perfectly balanced acidity, an alluring, sappy, sand/clay feel, and round, ripe tannins. It is so fluid and harmonious that it was a fabulous drink tonight, yet it clearly has buried tannins that indicate 2 or 3 more decades in front of it. Amazing how open and utterly delicious this was tonight. An absolute joy to drink and one of the finest young Grand Cru Burgundies I have ever enjoyed as much at this early stage.

A Birthday Celebration (F and B - Beaune): A complex combination of black and red cherry aromas and flavors with some red cherry, roasted meat and allspice. Still on the youthfully bright side, but with clear signs of how its opulence will become increasingly complex and layered. So enticing now, but certainly better 2023 forward.

Tasted after N-S-G 1er Cru Les Chaignots. Much bigger in structure with dense, concentrated fruit, spices, earthy notes on the nose. On the palate less accessible, the tannins are powerful and grippy. Lots of fruit underneath, fine acidity, very long. Excellent. 93-94+

Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Wine Dinner (Buona Terra Italian Restaurant Singapore): Pronounced nose intensity with notes of flora, mushroom, red cherries, strawberry, spices, toast. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Long finish.

Lighter body with bold red flavors and high minerality. Silky texture. Very fine wine making.

Thursday Cellar Visits in Burgundy - Prieure-Roch, Mugneret-Gibourg and David Duband (Cote d'Or (Mostly)): Barrel tasting at the domaine, tasted from a new oak barrel. All black fruit with lots of roast beef and game character. Very concentrated, while brightened and energized by finessed textures and a minerally finish. Excellent potential here.
