  • First, I need to say that it is a very well made wine, very carefully and for a very respected winery in Brazil: the 2011 Merlot monovarietal. I was advised that I was opening too soon, but I wanted to see the good news of a new vintage of "Storia" from Casa Valduga and of course follow its evolution because I am lucky to have more other 4 bottles and can open for the next four years. Initially, the wine was very closed, alcoholic and with too much hard tannins. However, on the second day, with less tannins - or at least not to much hard - it presented cocoa flavors, sauna, cedar, eucalyptus, menthol, cut grass and a light aroma of leather. In the mouth, very present acidity, intense tannins, but soft, a little bit spicy and citrus. For me, if it were to use one word to describe it would be "sauna" with its eucalyptus and cedar aromas. Anyway, a great wine!
