  • Almond or marzipan first on the nose, with the oaky vanilla next and some burnt butter. On the palette some great acidity, with the oak at the forefront, then some herbal notes, with some citrus and under ripe tree fruit. However, when it warmed up a little in the glass it opened up sensationally, with great balance between the oak and brilliant peach and apricot flavours. I recommend taking this out of the fridge and maybe a quick double decant before drinking to bring out the fruit. It came highly recommended and lived up to it.

  • Gold interesting color. At first a bit bitter on the end notes but this disappeared after 20 min. Savory chardonnay with long finish of citrus, peach and wild flowers.

  • A very young but modern Chardonnay. I sensed some new oak at work here. The wine has mild aromatics but a hell of a mouth feel. Creamy and new world like. Notes of Carmel are sensed in the medium length finish.

  • Quite rich and opulent, this has big fruit and big oak, but the right acidity to balance it all out. Core of tropical fruit with some caramel notes and a nice spiciness from the oak. A bit shouty, but well made. A bit overpriced IMHO.

  • Almost luminous golden yellow colour. Lemon on nose at first (with the merest trace of SA 'burnt rubber' which vanished in the glass). Hints of lime with a little lime zest acidity at first. Excellent fruit with buttery richness as it opened. Clearly very young with great potential.
A sample was retained and tasted next day. The wine had opened beautifully over 20h and showed ripe, sweet fruit on the nose and excellent fruit (including lemon, pear, peach, some tropical notes) on the palate. A touch of 'soapy' oak at first which turned into attractive toasty character. Big and 'fat' with excellent mouthfeel.
Lovely wine now but with years ahead of it.
Tasted at Grand Union Wine Society with Andrew Hill (George Hill of Loughborough Ltd).
