My first experience with Galardi and this varietal. I thought it was really nice, definitely on the rustic side, but I didn't get the feeling it was over the hill. I agree the tannins were much less than I was expecting, but thats not to say they were absent or the wine was unstructured. Drink now or over the next 10 years I would say.

Unmistakably southern Italian nose. Smelling this instantly reminds you of sunshine, tomatoes and herbs. To be specific, aromas of rosemary, lavender, potpourri, black pepper, sun dried tomatoes, crushed red pepper, ripe blueberry, ripe strawberries and ripe raspberries. The fruit is almost buried under the herbal aromas. High intensity of aromas. The palate is pretty consistent, adding a note of leather. Overall driven by the herbs. Intensity of flavors is medium +.
Medium + body with medium + acid and low tannins. The lack of tannins was a surprise for something made from 80% Aglianico and made this feel older than 9 years. Drink now. This is not going to get any better; and may be very slightly past peak.

Amazing turn around in quality from the first bottle! Great depth of flavors and mouthfeel. Tastes of dark red and black fruit and it looks it. Very polished and refined.

This is a lot of wine for 26 bucks! Like a lot of aglianico, I don't think it's destined to win any people's choice awards, but the structured, rustic bottle is great by me, especially for the price.
Double decanted. Deep violet with slightly bricking edges. Gamy, animal nose with some raisin. Palate leans redder than I expected, with some fresh blackberry, baking spice, and mineral notes. Finish is on the short side; surprisingly light on tannins, but what's there is rustic. Ready to drink, but no rush.

Really didn't like this one. Some odd flavors showing (band-aid, barnyard for example). I don't necessarily think this was a flawed bottle, it just wasn't a wine I wanted to drink due to the strange flavor profile. Let it sit overnight to see if additional air would help the funky flavors blow off, but no joy. Dumped 3/4 of the bottle. That's 0/2 on this wine, so I'm done.

This is really good. Unlike many aglianicos, this is not a big, brooding wine. It has balanced tannins and a lively mouthfeel. I love the aromas of dark berry fruit, licorice, and dark chocolate. Ready to drink now.

Rich blood red in color. Nearly opaque. Some signs of age on edges. The nose is forward, with loads of ripe fruit — black Cherry, blueberry, blackberry — and warm secondary notes of cigar, cedar, dark chocolate and cinnamon. Big. Palate is lovely with great balance, a soft but not quite velvety texture, and quite strong acidity that adds a balancing tartness to the ripe fruit. Fruit is ripe but not cloying at all. Riper on the notes. Blackberry and black cherry flavors. A touch of spice. Tannins are also high, but ripe and well integrated. The finish is a bit drying and little sour. A powerful and warm styled wine that is in a nice spot right now.

Pnp. Let open in glass for 30 minutes. Sweet cherries, violet and blueberries. Opens with more dark chocolate, some cedar. Long but not overly rich. A little tannic on the finish, a bit minerally. Somewhat velvety. This is great. On day 2 it is much more restrained. Substantially less aroma, only a touch of the fruit.

Decanted 1 hr. I think 14 was a pretty cool year in Campania, yet this turned out to be a well layered and seamless wine. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think that I was drinking a semi modern left bank Bordeaux, as it showed a lot of the same qualities – cassis, French oak, a good dose of earth etc. By the 2nd glass though, this showed a lot more of tannin and acid structure that Aglianico based wines are known or. It has 20% Piedirosso, but I have no idea what that would taste like as I have never seen it bottled by itself. Anyway, good wine, even better this was blown out by JJ for $27 a few years ago

Deep purple. Closed at first, blackberry, anise or licorice Opens to blueberry, dusty with a little funk. Thin, but long finish. Not sweet or cloying. After time, deeper earth and tobacco notes emerge, but the blue fruits stuck around. Decant for at least an hour or two, minimum.

This is a delicious, but overpriced wine. We decanted it and let it rest for a bit less than an hour. It's really wonderful with food, but on its own its rather one dimensional.

Tasted at a local wine shop as a vertical from 2013-16. I arrived late and missed the 2012, which I was told was the best of the lot. This is an 80/20 blend of Aglianico and Piedirosso. Opaque dark garnet with a crimson edge. Lighter texture and nose than the 2013. More floral and less brooding with some vegetal notes and bright red berry in both the nose and palate. Less tannin and brighter fruit than the 2013. Lower acidity as well with a short finish. Easy drinking now but probably less age worthy.

Decanted 2 hrs, I can understand the less than stellar vibe on CT, certainly not a lot of upfront charm, but there is enough to work with if served with the right food. Pleasant if uncomplicated at present.

Soft floral nose of dark plums and white pepper. Deep smooth palate-soaking fruit with a dense tannic aromatic back note widening into a sweet lingering acid finish. Quite different from other vintages; more forward, accessible, and dynamic. Delicious with chicken and porcini mushrooms. 50 + 16 + 17 + 8 = 91.

Cult wine in Italy (and US). Only bottle they make. Blueberries, iron, mineral - very NW fruit character. Grapes grown on side of existing volcano. Needs aging.

Not the best vintage of Terra di Lavoro, and I'm guessing it has less long term aging potential that prior vintages. But if you want to drink one young, this is the vintage. Its a big, full bodied wine, its just missing the final pieces that make this a special wine in other years.

Just a small taste, confirming what I already (knew) expected - it's a much too soon; a classic TdL, with earth/soil notes largely overwhelming the fruit at this stage. I'd say aerate in decanter for a day, or better, wait at least five years, and aerate to decanter even then. PnP at your own peril. HOLD. Certainly not one for the hedonists. Easily recommended
Second red wine at Table #3 at Oakton Wine Shops Bucket List Tasting.
Medium ruby core with garnet edges. Dark and tight nose with berries, earthy notes and tobacco. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium plus body. Layers of black cherries, tobacco leaves, cigar box and cassis on the palate. Medium plus finish. Drink till 2025.

Wow. Again the 14 from the south. Must have been a great year down there unlike the central or north.
Powerful expression of herbs and sweet fruit on the nose. Smells just so delicious. And the palate is open and expressive. Still super Italian touches of leather and big red fruit. Gamey but also with class and breed. Smell is like a wonderful leather bag the Italian in the room is telling me.
