Ken's 60th Birthday (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Surprisingly bright red fruit given its age and the character of the 1982 vintage. Lighter and elegant style, then more weight and power middle forward, even if never quite a powerhouse, or exhibiting the general heft from a top Musigny. Still very enjoyable tonight.

Ken's 60th Birthday (Smyth - Chicago, IL): A fine wine, but not special by any means. The nose is initially bashful but opens to show mature cherry with earth tones. Lighter bodied and quite elegant. Fresh, just a bit simple.

Another unheralded vintage that drank surprisingly well. Certainly outperformed my expectations. Went a bit downhill after two hours.

Leroy dinner - l'imperatrice (Tin Lung Heen, Ritz Carlton): spicy and mature with cool restraint. slightly dry finish. good but not great.
