  • Needed maybe half an hour in the decanter to find its sea legs. It's in an early stage of maturity, with bricked, crimson tones both in its fruit and its literal color, and it's eaten enough of its tannins to be (at first) accessible and (eventually) exquisitely refined. When it hits its zone, it flows across the palate like satin. I've dipped into a few 1999s lately and the concentration here is thicker than most - obviously these old vines were not quite so old back in 1999, but they were apparently old enough to do their thing here.
