An Oldie but a Goodie-Tasting at Maison Trimbach (Ribeauvillé, France): Yellow. Bright citrus aromatics. Similar weight to the 2017 but richer, more glycerine feel. Another wine that is fairly exotic for Trimbach with a mixture of off dry tropical fruit and citrus, but the fruit is crystal clear and brilliantly focused despite carrying 12 grams of sugar (compared to 2 grams in the 2017). Excellent acidity, a bit of youthful bitterness on the finish. All in all, I find it to be friendlier than Fréderic Emile usually is at this age. I think it will evolve more rapidly than the 2017, but it is still very cellar worthy.

Had with a buffé, short note, excellent stuff, but would have preferred it Decanter and not so cold. Will try again in a few months under better conditions.

Yellow apple, chamomile, hazelnut, minerals, and some floral notes on the nose. Rich, smooth, balanced taste. A bit citrusy, and sweeter than expected, almost like there’s some honey present. Long finish. Very nice.

Utterly brilliant wine! All the classic notes you expect from an Emile but with more body and a sweetness that reminds me of the Vendange Tardive variant. Really good already but will most likely hold for decades .

Petroleum, minerals, honeysuckle, citrus and almond. Lovely maturity, and interestingly there seems to be some bottle variations on the sweetness — this bottle had slightly less sugar than yesterday’s. Both versions were very nice!

Lovely! Pear, citrus, petroleum, hazelnut and lovely minerals. This is how a Riesling should be — balanced maturity with a long and nuanced finish with just a hint of sweetness. A bit sweeter than I remember the 2013 vintage, but not disturbingly so. Excellent!

Great bouquet with apples, pineapple, saffron and citrus. Great body and elegant fruit in the mouth, refreshing acidity and a long finish. There is an underlying sweetness though that I find i tad disturbing. But a great vintage of this wine.

Revisit of this great classic after more than 20 years at Trimbach tasting room, still offering exceptional and very reliable quality, has a certain sweetness/ripeness to it which fits it well, price point is even worse than 20 years ago:-( completely outside of my normal price point. In comparison with the excellent quality I tasted at Cave de Ribeauville Grand Cru Rieslings it's hard to recommend to pay more than triple the price per bottle. But if money is no issue for you, you can buy this at a restaurant or winestore in probably any vintages without concern.

Tasted at winery. A blend of two Grand Cru vineyards. Shiny pale yellow with green tint. Dried Meyer Lemon, green apple, honey and cake. Long lean dry finish.

An excellent bottle with loads of rich, ripe apple and tropical fruit with zippy, precise acidity. Nice floral and mineral complexity. Early peak.

This is the third vintage of FE I have ever tried ('11, '13, '15), and it is by far the sweetest one. Took me a bit by surprise.
Otherwise fantastic.

Alsace Riesling from Ribeauville (Cave de Ribeauville / Trimbach) (Ribeauville, Alsace, France): Colour: medium straw to light gold, medium legs, no sediment
Nose: rich white flower, stone fruit, slight tropical notes, minor Petrol
Mouth: rich, citrus, white peach, white flowers but also some steel note
Finish: long, complex, slightly bitter but in a good way
