  • Tasted at Caviste, UK, at their Old Port & Madeira Tasting. Hosted by Caviste owner Mark Bedford and presented by port and madeira expert Bartholomew Broadbent. This was the penultimate port of the tasting and my favourite, but then I've always been a Warre fan. I didn't know what to expect of a port which 120 years old, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it still looked so young. Appearance is bronze/red. Closed at first, then hints of leather and chocolate. Not surprisingly, there was clear evidence of base spirit. Overall, a very balanced port. I savoured this port over 2 hours and it remained excellent to the end. A fantastic opportunity to taste an aged Warre port. It happened to go very well with the mushroom risotto served!
