  • Had a bottle of this last year and it was great - rich, full bodied and complex.

Sadly, this second bottle was way over the hill. Browning color, leathery nose and sharp, bitter, nutty, oxidized flavors.

  • Here I go, my first public tasting note on CT :-)

Colour: Gosh, I feel kind of stupid to have forgotten this! I do recall that this is not a Chardonnay colour with its distinctive bright yellows. I promise this won't happen again :-)

Smell: Some mineral notes to the nose but definitely strong pears smells.

Taste: Some lemons at the beginning, with a good hazelnut finish.

Lovely wine, worth the 5 years wait.

We had this wine with shrimps and scallops in a saffron sauce - the meal was quite nice!

I love Robert P but I will rate this wine using this scale: http://www.cellartracker.com/forum/tm.asp?m=14940&mpage=1&key=wine%2Cscores&#14940.

I give it an 89, not quite entering the "perfection zone" as Bill puts it.

  • Very dry, crisp citrus and mineral palate

  • Steely nose with hints of vanilla. Palate of light citrus, grass, chalk and metal with a finish that fizzles into the abyss before it even begins. Consumed with mesquite grilled halibut and lobster, thankfully, as the meal saved the wine. Very disappointing compared to other vintages.

  • I thought this was quite good. Enjoyed last night with Kim and old HS friends with a havarti puff pastry appetizer and salad. Full bouquet with some oak, apple and pear on the nose. Clear gold color, very smooth and pleasant mouth feel and not overly sweet. Primary flavors included underlying oak, peach, apple and pear up front with the development of some citrus and grass flavors on the aftertaste. Very good QPR.

  • Color as others have described: goldenrod with a hint of light green. The nose and palate disagreed more than I expected; aroma was grassy, with hints of grapefruit. Though not at all expected, "butter" was the first word that entered my mind on the first sip, giving way to apple and pear. All in all, a very enjoyable wine that I could see being versatile with a variety of foods.

  • Judging by some other reviewers, it is obvious some folk do not know what to expect from an excellent Fumé Blanc.

Robert Mondavi coined the term "Fumé Blanc" to help market dry Sauvignon Blanc. Other American vintners have followed suite. This classic wine has a distinctively sharp herbal, almost grassy aroma. The dominating flavors are green apples, pears, gooseberries and a touch of mango.

This is a very versatile wine and goes well with almost any type of food, especially, pungent flavors like peppers, garlic and smoked cheeses.

  • Color: hint of greenness in an otherwise pale straw wine. On the nose: lemon zest, citrus, and some grass, mineral, and a whiff of ammonia but not the classic (and desirable) 'cat pee' of NZ Sauv Blancs. Still, for a napa sauv blanc this ain't bad. On the palate, drinking at cellar temp 55F, bright, if not bracing acidity brings flavors of grapefruit and other citrus/lemony notes. Some grass, but there is a hint of oak (not heavy at all) that balances the herbaceousness. On the mouthfeel, it's medium with a bit of a creamy feel on the finish. However, I can't determine if this wine saw full malo or not, since the creamy texture is not 'full'. Some of the minerality returns on the finish.

  • Pale gold, crisp grassy grapefruit, lemon tart, mineral, quince. Nice refreshing citrus acidity, florals, some creamed oak. Not at all as complex or unique as the To Kalon, or I Block....but light and refreshing, true SB flavors...for a good price! A goto Summer sipper.

  • Liked this a lot, our first foray into 'Fume' blanc, and the kiss of oak tamed some of that intense Sauvignon blanc grapefruit and grassy notes, it was soft and balanced on the palate with nice length (88 Points).

  • Light, floral nose with some grass. Also light on the tongue; tastes of pear and citrus peel, with long, dry, finish. Nice wine, especially for the price.
