  • Took a risk and bought a few from the winery in 2022. Boozy apple juice, down the drain. Hoping the others are better but not holding my breath.

Update: opened a second bottle without issue. First must've been flawed.

  • While we prefer chardonnay over sav blanc this was a quality wine. A little low on acidity but greay tropical fruits.

  • Same comments as last time, but still seeing more time in this wine. The aromas and flavors are still there. Enjoy now or in the next 5 years?

  • What can I say? That’s a pretty amazing wine.

  • What an excellent blend of grapes! The blonde color with a tint of lime green is the first noticeable thing, followed by an aroma of grass coming from the glass. The long finish with a flavor of melon make for a very enjoyable wine that is well worth the money!

  • The color of this wine is blonde, and the aroma is nutty. I taste walnut with a hint of fresh grass. The finish is nice and strong but smooth and pleasant. :)

  • This creamy and funky White Bordeaux blend veers a little too close to dessert wine for my taste, with more sweetness and less acidity than I find in its best years (e.g., 2017, 2015). I'm not sure if this is a characteristic of the 2016 vintage, since I tasted the same heaviness in both Morlet Chardonnays (including one a few days ago). Anyway, it's still tasty and unique (as always), but the 2016 currently lacks the freshness and energy of the best vintages.

Light yellow in color and full in body, the wine offers tropical notes of pear, golden delicious apple, lemon meringue, and orange curd. Tastes of gooseberry, quince, over-ripe cantaloupe, and brioche french toast, with a yeasty and nutty finish that seems a bit flat-footed. Blend of 67% Semillon, 32% Sauvignon Blanc, and 1% Muscadelle. 14.5% alcohol. 93+ for now, though I'm hoping the wine will work through this awkward phase by 2021 or later.

  • Morlet: Tropical up front without being too Hawaiian pool boy in your face about it, aided primarily by an exquisite smoothness that completely encompasses the core and judiciously corrals any would-be radical isotope pineapple flavor that tries to claim sovereign citizen freedom fighter status. Refreshing, and the exact opposite of harsh or angular (the way some SBs can be). Yellow citrus, white peach, stone fruit, and beeswax, as coated with a viscosity that is both savory and fresh. 96-97+ points. Even better than when I had this back in February 2019.

  • Tastings; 9/19/2019-9/20/2019 (Napa): I would drink a lot more Sauvignon Blanc if they were all like this. This is an absolutely terrific effort from Luc Morlet. Honey, pear, citrus, and apricot. Drinking well now, but this has great structure to go the distance. Tasted at the Morlet winery.

  • Coravin 1/3 bottle. Light nose of citrus and brisk ocean air. Flavors of citrus with a touch of bitterness or rind. Tightly coiled. This seems young with years of life ahead.

  • This is just a terrific wine. Beauty of a nose with grapefruit, citrus plus a bit of pear and apricot. Super pure and concentrated, this shows remarkable depth for the varietals represented. It has velvety layers of flavor, with bright acidity and great tannin support. It finishes very long and shows remarkable potential for longevity.

  • Morlet tasting (Saint Helena): Yellow pear skin, lemon rind, apricot, marzipan, fondant, acacia, and a touch of dry sherry. The initial attack starts off a tad dry, but then rushes to the mid-palate picking up elegant yellow core fruit flavors. Concentration is a beautiful center-drop of lemon and pear notes, finishing long, but with a slightly bitter floral note producing a pleasant drying effect that gently clenches the back palate.

Overall, an elegant delivery of fruit framed-out by a firm but relatively accessible encapsulation that grips the sides of the palate with sophisticated resolve. More primary in its current state than the profoundly complex 2014 La Proportion Doree, this 2016 will require some time to truly broaden its flavor spectrum and develop additional depth and complexity. Ideally, hold for a minimum of 3+ years before revisiting. 95+ points, with certain upside after 2022/2023+.

  • Tightly wound up on opening, this beauty evolved in the glass (Riedel pinot noir Vinum) to reveal floral notes in addition to smooth lemon and ripe apricot flavors. Crisp, dry, refreshing with complementary silken texture and long finish. Expect cellaring to further bring all its elements into symphonic harmony.
