APPEARANCE: Medium brown, tea colour. Slight, very fine sediment. 20.0% ABV. NOSE: Dark plums, prunes, sweet wood, nuts, toffee, raisins, blackberries, hints of quality old but fruity XO or Hors d’Age Cognac. A little rustic. With more air come notes of overbrewed tea and citrus (oranges and bitter orange peel). (88-90p) TASTE: Initially the taste is medium sweet before quickly opening up to a raisiny, more intense sweetness. On the mid palate the raisiny notes are predominant, although the acidity breaks through on the side and at the back of the mouth. In the exit and aftertaste the acidity is more pronounced, which lifts the taste impression, saves the exit from being overly sweet or cloying and balances the wine. There’s actually a lot of rather nice and fruity, citrusy acidity (mainly orange). Plus some lightly burnt caramel. What I’m missing is complexity or depth. This is so far rather straightforward and a bit one dimensional in the mouth. (86p) OVERALL: A “competent” Rivesaltes which offers some complexity on the nose but not so much in the mouth. Great acidity bodes for a long bottle life potential (but will it develop and become more complex? I doubt it...) TOTAL SCORE 88 points.
UPDATE 03.01.2020: 3+ weeks after opening, the NOSE has added a deeper and darker layer; old polished lacquered tropical wood, dark mahogany notes, furniture polish, dark caramel, over brewed Darjeeling tea, hints of old fashioned cough syrup (herbal, liquorice). The TASTE has also become a bit darker; more on notes of dark caramel, old sweet wood, dried figs, dates and raisins, and also here a slightly medicinal element (the old fashioned cough syrup notes). Not less fruity though, it is just being approached from a slightly different angle. The complexity has begun to arrive;) I keep my 88-90 points for the nose but increase my score for the taste from 86 to 88, resulting in a new TOTAL SCORE of 89 points.

Best bottle yet. No notes taken but it's apparent that this wine shines with the right combination. A dark chocolate dessert with a salty twang was spot on!

Pale amber colour. Mature nose with notes of dried fruits, candied orange peel, nuts, honey and some hints of cocoa and tobacco. Rich, full bodied, sweet taste (140 g/l) with nice acidity and notes of dried fruits, candied orange peel, nuts, honey, coffee, spices and some hints of tobacco and cocoa. Long aftertaste!

Very uncomplex and uninspiring wine. Burnt sugar, sultanas, not much else.

Nice and uncomplicated sweet wine. Spices, caramel, dried fruit, and Christmas cake. Pairs well with chocolate and nuts.

Hyper dense, ample et corsé.
Zestes d`oranges et dattes avec des abricots.
Long et intense, super sucré, un verre et suffisant.
