  • No rating, as five-year-old Schrader magnums are clearly WAY too young to evaluate fairly. But hey, it's hot vax summer! That deserves a celebration! Besides, TRB's 2013 and 2014 BTKs were pretty impressive around this age. Unfortunately, the 2016 didn't show quite as well. It's a bit shut down right now, with a muted nose and a disjointed palate experience dominated by syrupy, boozy glycerol. That said, there's plenty to look forward to: a Mack truck's worth of blackberry and crème de cassis buttressed by brown spices, lavender, and laurel, all riding on ample, plush tannins that will undoubtedly offer a long, pleasing finish to every sip. Hopefully, they'll also provide a longer life in bottle than I'd usually expect for wines made in this ripe a style. Give the 2016 Old Sparky at least 3-5 years to come together and drink through 2036-2046.
