South Africa WIMPS #175 27th March 2024 (La Trompette, Chiswick): Double decanted 7 hours before drinking. Very dark fruited, cassis and blackcurrant fruit pastille. Powdery tannins. With air some touches of dark milk chocolate. Some hints of chestnut and a little soy character. As it warms in the glass the 14.5% alcohol makes its presence felt. Will be interesting sample another bottle on its 15th birthday.

This is a great effort from Kanonkop Red cherry, red currant, cassis, plum, cedar wood. Plenty of fruit and grippy tannins. It will develop for 10-15 years. Be patient and you will get rewarded. Next bottle in 3-5 years.

Very generous nose with red and black fruit plus cocoa, cedar, toast and vanilla. Grippy tannins, good acidity and plenty of fruit on the palate, savoury and a little spicy. Excellent with a piece of meat.

Drinking beautifully right now. Tannin/ Acid coming into balance. Fruit beam of red fruit with a subtle pucker tartness shining through. Worth cellaring Kanonkop well past its release.

Drank at Wine Club. For me wine of the South African night theme. Went well with rump steak in brandy sauce. Deep red colour. Lovely black fruits, acid and tannin in harmony and long on the palate. Very enjoyable and memorable It should last at least another 5 years.

Gorgeous CS, expressing the best of this underappreciated region and one of the world's great values in the quality level of the classic grape. Complex, balanced and lingering, it's literally a haunting experience for the first time I've tried the label. The wine captures literally the best of Napa and Sonoma attributes, with a strong measure of a top Bordeaux. Totally loved the bottle.

Cassis, cherries, red currant, dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee, well integrated but obvious oak influence. Medium acidity, medium plus tannins, high alcohol. Long

Carolines 5 Star Tasting - Truly superb wine and I think more reasonably priced that Paul Sauer. Everything I want from a good Stellenbosch Cab. Highly recommend (Platters 5 stars)

Cassis, black cherries, chocolate, espresso. Fruit is ripe and sweet but in no way over the top. Vanilla, cedar influence present. Medium acidity, medium+ tannins. Young but already approachable. Better on the second day.

Black currant. Nicely constructed. Too young. Hold.
