  • I suspected this would be to early, and it was. Nose of dusty Cedar, done florality and dark fruits. Palate is all elegance with very firm tannins, being kept in check by the concentration. A little bitterness in the medium long finish. My first Taurasi, and this is wonderful, very Italian style. I could possibly mistake this for a Brunello blind. many years ahead of this, but I don't think I'll be trying another for a while.

  • Dark purple color. Perfumed floral nose with a touch of black pepper. The black pepper carries though in the palate combined with dark fruit and an underlying flavor of sage. Earthy, yet elegant. Medium full body. This wine is still very primary with pronounced tannins and acidity. Drinks like an strange exotic Burgundy. Still outside its drinking window with another year or two to go, and then 10-15 years or more after that. Lovely.

  • Drank over eight hours

Was best at the last hour.

    Medium bodied, burgundy colored
Hints of red fruit, dark cherries, tobacco, flint, blackberries
Overwhelming under ripe cherries, medium plus finish, tight, a little thin. Acidity and tannin were fairly aggressive. This wine needs time to develop. That being said, it went nicely with dinner. I will give it at least another 3-5 years before opening my next bottle.

  • The 2013 Mastroberardino 'Radici' is a wonderful release from this storied estate in Taurasi. The Estates flagship wine, and one of the most recognized wines of Taurasi, this 100% Aglianico was sourced from the Mirabella Eclano vineyard, where vine age averages 30 years in age are planted to clay/sand soils, at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level. The wine itself is fantastic, it spent 24 months in French oak barriques and Slavonian casks and 24 months in the bottle before release. It begins with inviting aromas of blackberries and red fruits with spring florals and exotic spices all taking shape. Beautifully balanced, this continues to impress with its outstanding structure and gorgeous refined texture, which leads up to the long, precise finish. The pedigree is already quite evident, however you may want to tuck it away for a few more years as it will need a bit more time in bottle before it begins to show its best.

  • Dark garnet color. Perfumed floral nose with underlining red and blue fruit with touch of spice box. Medium body. Flavors of dark cherry, raspberry, blueberry, sage, and tobaccos. The tannins and acidity are still very pronounced. The wine has a very elegant balance. Burgundy meets Barolo. This is a lovely wine that will only improve over the next 10+ years. Drink now, but with at least an hour before decant. About two years until it enters its drinking window.13.5% abv.
