This bottle has been cellared nicely for many years and it was drinking en pointe.
Opaque dark ruby. Cassis, chocolate powder, blackberry compote, earthy dust, charcoal, rich blueberry, vanilla. Very smooth with fully resolved tannins, medium (+) acidity and a lovely mouthfeel. Medium bodied with a good length finish that has a mineral streak alongside the rich fruit flavors. This wine is at peak, and needs to be drunk sooner rather than later. Lovely stuff that’s hard to put down. 92 points and 4 stars for this treat that runs $150 new.

This is why I drink wine. Enjoyed with thick lamb chops, white bean puree, pasta pimenton with parmesan bay cream. Beautifully floral nose; remarkable balance of dark berry and stone fruit, tannin, and mineral taste. Very long smooth and clean finish. Decanted about 1 hour before tasting. This wine will likely improve with age, but is a joy to drink now.

Napa Weekend; 4/20/2018-4/23/2018 (Napa): This was opened and poured for our party after the 2005 SLV and was more youthful but needed time to show. It was also popped and poured by our hostess so it likely would show better with some more air. I have a bottle at home already and will lay it down for a few years. I am saving a few vintages of this to do a vertical tasting in a few years.

A step up from our prior bottle. More complexity, more structure. Still not as big and bold as other 2013 Napa cabs, but is in a very enjoyable spot.

Big and jammy with some cab franc vegetal notes but not the tannins and finish we were hoping for.

A little thin and got thinner over the course of the bottle. Nice wine, but nothing special.

A really nice cab, but much more nuanced than the typical Napa cab in this price range, especially for a 2013. We prefer our cabs a little bolder.
