Very faint tertiary flavors for a wine of its age. Still a big, enjoyable wine but I sense this would have been better as a younger wine as transformation via aging never seemed to have happened. Muted but pleasant nose of sawdust, plums and a slight whiff of old leather car seats. Well-balanced juicy mouth - dark fruit, some umami and licorice. Medium finish of dried fruit.

Deep and brooding, this wine in at a nice point with 17 years to develop. Brick in the middle with purple and garnet on the rim. Rich, milkshake texture with noticeable tannins that haven’t precipitated out just yet. Earthy, peaty notes dominate the nose along with allspice and just a touch of clove. Palate is hedonistic with the almost rustic texture and creaminess. Palate adds a smoky, black licorice, overripe berry note. Add some cocoa and a long finish and you have an amazing wine.

magenta body, dark red rim, in the color. cherry, spice, berry, caramel, on the nose. blueberry, blackberry, cherry, espresso, chocolate, on the palate. light acid, on the finish.

While this bottle may have been past it's prime, it was enjoyed by all? Missed some of that lingering tastes but still had the fruit and consistency that you would expect from a Turley. This was the last bottle of this vintage and I was surprised that it stood up to 10 years in our cellar.

I don't have much experience with this grape. The profile was typically rich Turley but the alcohol was lighter and overall it was an easy drinker. Cherries and raspberries.

SQN Dinner (Lockkeepers): Perhaps because Turley had come up earlier in the conversation, or that Tom was pouring this blind, but it seemed to have that Turley signature to it. I thought it was a Petite Syrah though until Tom said no one would guess the varietal. At that point I guessed Charbono. BTW, I just heard Gary V. say Charbono and Bonarda were the same grape, is this true? Anyway, it was a fine enough wine but probably past prime. The nose had a dusty cherry note with a bit of dish water. Smooth boysenberries on the palate. Nice enough wine.

Really interesting nose--huckleberry, maybe a little leather, pretty zingy. A little less interesting in the mouth, but a nice finish. Yummy, but not mind blowing.

Tasted at the Turley tasting room in Paso Robles on 4/21/03.
$29 at the tasting room. I did not know what to make of this wine. To me, it had a relatively thin core, with fruit surrounding the core. It did not seem to have come together yet. I passed on this one.
Give it time if you have it.

Good wine but $60 is way too much. Good dense fruit on nose. Medium body with decent tannin structure that clearly is on the decline.
In a blind tasting I would think this is either very well made Zin or a $25 Petite Syrah.

At 11 years of age still appears and drinks youthfully. Seems to be a Gamay with guts.

Full-bodied, cherry/blackberry fruit, good structure, lacks complexity, very short finish
