Flott balanse

  • Blackberry jam, liquorice and spice. Very silky in the mouth and sweet, tannins already somewhat softened. Weighty and long although hot on the palate. Excellent.

  • PnD let air for 1hr. and had a small glass before re-sealing in a vacuum decanter. Dark dense purple black with violet to clear rim. Macerated cherries figs prunes baking spices dark chocolate licorice and espresso on the nose. Medum(+) weight with silky tannins. Fresh on the palate with flavours that echo the nose. Creamy blackberry compote finish. Looking foward to savouring this over the next 2-3 days.

Day 2 Holding up well. Not better not worse. Maybe a little less hot if anything.

  • Very dark ruby purple. A lovely bouquet of violets, plums and coffee grounds. Very smooth on the palate with flavours of dried prunes and Christmas spices. Towards the sweeter end of the port scale with more than a nod to Graham's richness. Finishes sweet but very clean. Only medium weight, I don't think this has the concentration and build to make very old bones but it is nonetheless a delicious and very pretty wine which is drinking well right now. Nice box as well.

  • The sym. family bought this in '84 and '85. Heavy and much richer in style than the Smith Woodhouse. The property is almost at the Spanish border. The wine, in a good year, produces .5 per ton. So packed and stacked on the vintage port issue. Only single quinta vintage port and that is it.

  • Dark opaque purple, near black. The nose has lots of dark brambly fruit and lots of grapes. There is moderate tannin and acidity. Nice structure now but will it hold up for 20+ years? It's possible the tannin is just hiding under all that fruit. Lots of nice fruit on the palate. Medium length finish. There's some alcohol showing on the nose but it's nicely integrated on the palate. Not a whole lot of complexity right now. This will be a good wine for mid-term drinking while waiting for the 2000 and 2003 vintages to reach maturity.

  • Tasted at the Quinta on 10/5/06. Very young grape nose, tons of fresh fruit, very silky palate, subdued tannins, but a good strong finish. 93(+)? It's a bit young to tell for sure right now, but this may be a mid-term drinker and lacking the backbone to carry it for long term cellaring.
