  • My second time tasting this wine, and just as good as the first. My wine sat in a decanter for three hours, and then I poured. The blend is 50/50 Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. I think that I like this better than a Brunello because it has more backbone and a layer of complexity that a Brunello doesn't have. Is it worth $45 a bottle? You bet!

  • 50/50 Cabernet/Sangiovese. At 8 years of age, this is ready to go now with a short decant. The Cabernet comes through pretty clearly on the nose, meat and mushroom notes. Smooth tannins at this point and I’d say prime drinking window is now plus 3.

  • My second time tasting a Poggio Antico wine and I'm impressed. My wine sat in a decanter for five hours and then I poured it into a Pinot glass. This is a very smooth wine with little tannin. I think that it is a better wine than the 2015 Poggio Antico Brunello that I tasted recently. It is definitely worth $45 a bottle, and I plan to purchase some more.

  • Didn't read the TN/reviews in advance but similar to SS's impressions and not nearly as high on it as WA94+ and JS94. Enjoyed over Italian lunch, likely needed more of a decant but paired very nicely with food. Leather, tobacco, and plummy fruits with touches of spice, but felt a little reserved and even flat at times on the finish. Yummy but not yet hitting the mark, especially at the $40 price point, perhaps a year or 2 more of integration helps.

  • Decanted for 2 hours. 50% each CS / Sangiovesse.
Had with cheese course and sausage pizza and ziti.

    Garnet
    Minimal nose in the glass.
Medium- body. Light on its feet. Very bright, high acid (needed food). Old world, elegant almost balanced with forest floor, integrated oak, some red fruit and herb.

I had planned to pair this with our cheese course/before dinner sipper, but due the brightness acid ended up savimgnit for the pizza red sauce to cut it and had a Chianti first.

The Madre was nice to try, but would probably not buy again at the $50 price point. At same tasting we had a $30 2016 castello Bossi Berardo CCR (100% sangiovesse) also with 2 hour decant. The Berardo had more pleasant aromatics, more body, more complex charactertics (tilled earth, leather, spice) that was favored by all 4 of us at the dinner party.
