Served blind. Old, pretty, slightly astringent, some menthol on the nose. Not as good as I would have expected for this esteemed producer and vineyard.

Burgundy Dinner - René Engel and 1978s (Formento's - Chicago IL): In 1978 flight. Rich and fully mature with lots of mushroom and spice. Very enjoyable, with more nuance and complexity emerging with air. Moderate length and weight, but this kept unfolding in new and interesting directions, without ever getting tired.

Krug Dinner (Yusho - Chicago IL): Library release, probably from 2008. Started with great baking spice and earthy aromas that immediately made me think of a great Vosne-Romanee. I was off by a narrow lane! Slightly more advanced on palate, but this showed an elegant, spicy finish.

Some Wine Tasted at the Zachys Auction (Four Seasons Restaurant - New York NY): This was one of the bottles I was most eager to try today. Perfect fill, perfect condition, but slightly tired wine. Almost entirely tertiary. Not close to the level of another bottle from a few years back.
