According to the recommendation this should have been consumed in 2020 - meh, any excuse to open it! So, the colour was still good, straw-like, and the aromas were noted to be gooseberry, green apple and pear. Acidity is good with a pleasant lingering after-taste.

These mass production Marlborough winemakers do a fantastic job in churning out millions of bottles of modestly priced wine each year, yet managing to keep a decent baseline standard. Oyster Bay is a perfect example. Their Sauvignon Blanc is nothing to call home about, but it is always a consistently decent drink. Bottled under screw cap, there was a hint of reduction and sulphur when first poured. With a bit of air though, it was very Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc in character, with notes of gooseberries and green grass, snake fruit, and maybe just a hint of cat’s pee. The palate was simple, but brisk and balanced, with more of those gooseberries, maybe a sweeter bite of donut peaches, and then a good streak of acidity providing some spine. It finished with a kiss of spice and a little flush of glycerol that peeled out when warm. That apart though, it was a decent drink that went well with our food.

Lime and green papaya in front of an intense, grassy, mineral, chalky core before finishing fairly long on acidity. The baseline NZ Sauv Blanc, good value at around $12. Tasted next to a Sancerre at 3x the price, this was deeper with more intensity and a longer finish. Not sure why the dislike for this one on here or elsewhere, this to me is at least a solid 'weeknight white' and a good companion to most foods that want an acidic wine as a partner

Not overly complex, but a very enjoyable wine at a really good price. Lemon-lime, grapefruit, pineapple, and vegetal aromas. Similar flavors with citrus and tropical fruits.. Slightly oily in texture . Good acidity.

Half Bottle. A typical, pungent and fresh nicely grassy and elegant, fresh white fruits wine. Ends medium, fresh and zingy. 12.5%. Will probably improve to an 89 with aeration.

Pale yellow fading to clear rim. Lemon, cut grass, and gooseberry on the nose. But THE CAT PEE! Oh my, the cat pee is nearly overwhelming! I poured this to my "Wine for Beginners" class and almost had to apologise for it. If you like the NZ style of SB, you may be ok with this. But it is much more pungent than most. Great acidity, but out of balance.
Wine is clear pale lemon in colour. There is a lot of petulance in the glass and in the bottle. Possibly from excess so2 when bottling. On the nose there is an intense aroma of lime zest, melon, asparagus and cut grass. The wine is dry with no detectable sugar. High acid, medium alcohol, medium + flavour, medium - body, with a short finish. Flavors consistant with the nose of mango, melon, and lime juice. In conclusion this is a simple wine that is balanced with intense flavour but a short finish. I would rate this as a good wine. It is not suitable for aging.

Light, lots of citrus and melon, almost effervescent. Great for the price. Perfect and refreshing, exactly what I expected from this bottle, ideal for a light spring weeknight easy sipper.

The wine is pale lemon in color. The aromas are lemon/lime cheese and pastry. The wine is dry with high acidity. The alcohol is medium as is the flavor, body and finish. The flavor is hay, lime, grapefruit and toast. It was not my favorite during the tasting but really enjoyed it the next day.

We agree with Paul852: "absolutely archetypal Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, done well." Nothing sticks out, citrus is in balance. Excellent value for $11. Only caveat is that it is totally average, so not too interesting if you are familiar with them.

This is absolutely archetypal Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, done well; it's been a safe choice that I've drunk for the last decade. It benefits from being open for a while and not being too cold (maybe around 12 degrees).
My perception is that the 2018 is a touch less acidic than earlier vintages, and better for that in my opinion. But it still has all the fruit-forwardness and directness that you expect. It's not a subtle or complex wine, but compared to some other, rougher Marlborough SBs Oyster Bay is smooth and consistent. It's not quite Cloudy Bay, but, in my area at least, it's a third of the price, and 90% of the quality.
