2017 Errazuriz Pinot Noir

Community Tasting Notes

Community Tasting Notes (12) Median Score: 89 points

  • From 75cl, perfect cork, opened but not decanted 1 hour, did not change or develop. Pretty rose-petal and red-plum perfume; light bodied entry for a Chilean Pinot Noir, only 13% alc; very low-acid, low-tannin and generally insubstantial mid-palate. That said, there is good pure sweetness here. Overpriced at 20 EUR German retail (Ziereisen's Schulen offers better value in a similar style). If you have this in the cellar, it's time to drink up. 87P

  • Drunk over 2 days. Garnet with a waterly rim. Translucent. There is no sediment in the bottle. Nose: cherry, forest floor, herbal notes and a whiff of barnyard. Red cherries, herbal and earthy notes on the palate. Light body, medium+ acid. ABV 13%, well balanced with fruit and acid. Fresh, elegant and linear wine. Medium finish with a slightly bitter aftertaste. It improved from day 1 to day 2. Color:5/5 Nose:12/15 Palate:16/20 Je ne sais quoi:7/10. 90P

  • Priced $25 CAD and worth every dollar, this light bodied red clocks in at 13% alcohol and offers cherries, spices, chalk and ends on a persistent and slightly bitter finish. The best value pinot I have ever had which must be purchased if found. Drink now.

  • As per my most recent notes now packed with dense ripe wild berries with cherry nuances. Hints of earth, spice and florals. Excellent quality and very good value.
For drinking up soon while overall grip maintained.

  • Brilliant light plum red with medium minus optical density and medium plus, finely-detailed specular reflectivity. Aromas show medium intensity and a simple profile, with tart red fruits and garden vegetable soil (a bit of green pepper and some celery seed). Some more delicate floral and spice notes, but lurking a ways back. On the palate, juicy, with light body, vibrant acidity, and very subdued tannins providing a texture that is light and lithe with broad polish. Just a slight touch of sticky and sappiness, but overall a pretty elegant wine, not so much dense and concentrated. Flavours of raspberry, cranberry, and green pepper on the attack, with a balanced approach. Some may find an excess of pyrazines; for me, it just skirts from being a problem to adding some interest. The midpalate shows more of the same, with perhaps some delicate spice and a savoury touch of forest flowers. Still, remains low in complexity in this phase. The final transition shows sour cherry and savoury meatiness before settling into a short finish of cherry pit.

This is a juicy and straight-forward light red, with a certain Chilean flair. Definitely a fruit-forward new world styling, with less varietal than regional flair. An interesting wine despite a lack of much depth or complexity. Still provides a satisfying drink and a lovely drinkability. Reasonable value for a delightful, unconventional PN.

  • Clear pale ruby; clean medium nose of black cherry, damp soil, black berry, strawberry, vanilla and toast; dry; medium plus acidity; medium tannins; medium alcohol; medium body; medium intensity; pfn but dominated by cherry, strawberry and cranberry; medium finish; very good quality; drink now, not suitable for future aging; humdrum entry into the overly crowded world of average Pinots

  • Has definitely broadened/opened up after a further 6 months in my cellar since my last note. From the purity of my original note has developed an earthy richer black cherry character, with hints of desert fruit and spice. Good body. Excellent if a bit too unsubtle to rise above the 90pt level. Moreish food wine and very good value at the price.
For drinking over the next couple of years.

  • Medium-high intensity nose offers forest wet earth, red & sour cherry, beet root, funky earth, tobacco, and subtle spice. It's fairly light-to-medium bodied on the palate with nice earthy aroma replays, plus dark currant, dark berry and black plum notes. Acids are well-balanced, while the finish length is excellent.

  • Excellent value.
Very pure ripe PN but should develop well over the next couple of years taking on secondary characteristics along the way to lift it further. Moreish.
    Now and till 2021. 88+?+
