  • Riesling, gewurtztraminer, viognier? Chenin blanc?

Honey, white flowers, apricot, white pepper, lemon.

Roundness to mouthfeel but finishes with some astringency. Really fun and interesting.

  • Unique nose of florals, green peach, and chartreuse-like herbal notes. Pit of stone fruit and mineral/oyster shell on the palate with a bracing orange peel tartness. Waxy. Medium mineral finish. Overall, a unique wine with the nose captivating my attention much more than the palate.

  • I am fascinated by this wine... a blend of white varietals some of which I don't particularly care for... but I really enjoy this wine.

  • Very floral nose - honeysuckle, acacia blossom, musk. Palate was tropical - lychee, tangerine. Medium bodied, dry, moderate plus ABV, med-minus acidity. The length of the finish was moderate and clean without having a zip of acid to cut it short. Paired well with green Thai curry.

  • Killer juice. Bright and lively but with a nice mouthfeel from the Chenin

  • I know I'll come across like Rodney Dangerfield writing this, remember him, a hilarious comedian who mentioned his wife in his routine. Well...my wife is notorious for being a fickle wine drinker. One day she loves a wine, the next day she's ready to pour it down the sink. Me? I have a broad palette. We both agree that Compagni Portis is a wonderful wine. She described it as 'perfect' when I asked her hesitantly; hesitant because I was concerned about her potential verdict, but trooper that I am, more than ready to imbibe whatever volume she didn't wish to consume. Here's my verdict: it's a full flavor wine that tastes natural, nothing like any other wine I drink, it's a blend and doesn't fall into a category like Chardonnay where people debate whether there is too much oak or not, it's not a Chenin Blanc either although there is an element of straw, but mixed with melon and other really nice flavors. It's a winner! I hope it confuses other wine drinkers, those who like to put wines into categories because this doesn't fit into a category and is thoroughly enjoyable as itself, as a wine, what is in the glass, without comparison to other wines, except previous vintages. Compagni Portis is one of the reasons I'm such a huge fan of Morgan Twain Peterson's wines.

  • Light golden with very faint olive tinge. Nose floral, hint of petrol, waxy, crushed rocks, with swirling hint of peach. Palate richness, hint of cream, grapefruit rind with hint of bitterness.

A bit lacking in acidity, a bit muddled flavor-wise, wished for a bit more freshness and clarity. Perhaps it suffered as it was tasted with a lemony pasta and salty kielbasa? Looking for how it tastes on day 2.

Day 2, more of a flinty lemon oil chard flavor, with hint of peach stone fruit towards the finish. better with more time, perhaps a decant would have helped. 90 pts

    from back label:
"Only 71 cases made, from this lovely field-blended vineyard planted on the southeastern edge of Sonoma Valley. Planted in 1954, the vineyard is a field blend of Gewurztraminer, Trousseau Gris (once known as Grey Riesling in California), true Riesling (once known as White Riesling), and Roter Veltliner. "
