I have had many excellent wines by Mount Langi Ghiran; this wine is anything BUT excellent. Something must have gone seriously wrong in the production or shipping process! My first bottle is not what these last bottles were.

Another really good showing. This is a great bottle to pull on a weeknight to accompany red meat when nothing too special is warranted. Shows much better varietal character than most AUS Shiraz, has a screwcap, excellent price. I see these from time to time on Last Bottle for about $12 and I'm never sorry to have a few. The screwcap is somehow a big plus for me on a wine like this.

Two bottles were both pretty much the same: Acidic, EFFERVESCENT, sour with good flavor but these other characteristics overwhelmed the flavor. The wine was drinkable but No way for me. i left the second bottle open for several days and then closed at room temperature for several weeks and tasted it regularly. After about a week it started improving and got much better and more like expected at the end.

I cannot recall what prompted me to buy these. Must have been hyperbole from an email offer. TBS, I can see why others would view this as a nice QPR. Fragrant nose. Fairly balanced palate and long tasty finish. I guess this is not so bad. Not as big as I would suspect a OZ Shiraz to be and I think that is why it’s nice. Does have a sweet candied kick to it.

Decanted and served with chili, this was a good choice for the job. Bright fruit, not jammy, but enough to stand up to the bold flavors, enough acidity to help with the spice. Really good showing of this wine which remains a strong value. I don't have much in my cellar which falls into the bold / forward fruited camp, but this did the job quite well.

Good. I changed my mind from my earlier post; I don't much like this. It is much more tannic and acidic than most shirazes. Aussie shiraz is known for it smooth, lush fruit with eucalyptus, mint and fennel notes. This wine has none of those features.

First time I experienced this wine from this region. Perhaps it was my experience or expectations but the wine had a very fruity nose reminiscent of Concord grape. There was literally no structure, no tannins, and very flat. The flavor followed the nose - tasted like Welch’s grape juice (although I believe Welch’s has a longer finish). Perhaps it was the bottle but this wine was flat. In fairness to the producer, I chose not to rate the wine, and because frankly, it fell below 80 on my scale which rarely happens. Very disappointing.

Deep dark center, red rim with no signs of age. Smokey, herbal, bacon, blackberry, blueberry. A little sweet, lighter red fruit, cherries, cream, smoked meat, modest acid and tannin, some metal, nice finish, good length. Very good Shiraz, good now, might be better in a year of two.

Too tight, young, and wound up to evaluate right now. Will revisit this bottle in a couple of days.
Totally different wine on day 4. I don't normally keep wine this long, or expect much from it if I do, but it is possible that the screwcap + refrigeration gave this a more gradual aging profile. So, on night four, with a porterhouse and salad, this showed plenty of black olive and blackberry with good acidity. Not profound, but quite pleasant. I'd suggest letting these rest a couple of years or giving it a very long decant at this time. If this showing is consistent this represents a tremendous value.

Fruity, on the sweet side without being jammy. Light bodied for a Shiraz. Some spice in the end. Good easy drinking.

Good. Exactly what I would expect from an $12 aussie shiraz; eucalyptus and alcohol. Still, a decent drinker.
