Stunning and complete bottle of red Burgundy. Super modern and floral aromatics. Dances on the palate with an elegance and levity that only Liger Belair can seem to conjusre up. In spite of this overwhelming "easy to drink" quality," the wine is layered and complex. Really blossomed after a few hours open. The finest CLB I have encountered.

On pnp this was powerful and decidedly oak dominated, even monolithic. Left open (without decant) for around 6 hours and oh boy did it transform and reveal itself. Still immense power for the vintage and fairly dark fruited it soared from the glass with majestic energy. It's most certainly a Reignots to hold onto 10 years plus. While the youngest of Reignots I ever tried this was a lot less open than the 15 and 14 drank last year as context. Hold!

Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanee Aux Reignots 2017. 97p

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers - New York NY): Walk around tasting. Enticing spice and floral start with black and red cherry. Not close to a powerhouse, but an enchanting enchantress with so much bright cherry, spice and elegant textures. Cellar for a few years, but this is a beauty to enjoy on the young side, probably best 2023-2032.

La Paulée 2020 Grand Tasting of 2017 Burgundy (Pier 60, New York): Family similarity with incredibly sweet red fruit-the Fourrier of Vosne. Of course more depth and texture than the Clos du Chateau, but much more charred oak too, which was detrimental for me. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this wine. Too New World? Too much of a good thing or am I being too puritanical? The volume of fruit certainly sets it apart, though. That much is clear.

2018 Visit to Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair with Louis-Michel (Vosne-Romanée): For me, the best wine so far. A mélange of red and black cherries, raspberries, blackberries and other dark and red fruit and violet perfumes. A suggestion of crème de cassis. On palate, lovely, satiny texture and mouth-feel. Plums and rich kirsch-like cherries and berries. Succulent fruit. Dense and powerful, yet elegant and mineral. Peacock's tail complexity. Outstanding!

Drank this as we settled into our seats; good pick-me-up, prepping us for a decadent evening.
Showy out of the gates, with perky fruit and a little bite of spice. Well crafted and delicious.
