A very high quality wine to start off with but it did not evolve well after an hour and a half in a decanter/glass. Notes of apple-skin, hazelnut, new oak; banana-coconut tanning lotion.

Back to back with 16 estate. PNP other than an aeration decant. A bit more Carmel tone to the nose vs the 16, and a more youthful expression with less integration of course. Otherwise pretty similar. We enjoyed the 17 over the 16, but not by a significant margin.

Deep gold with apple, pear, honey, pineapple with some oak and smoke on the nose. Medium to full body with a fresh acidity that is balanced by the subtle tannins. Buttery but not overly so with apple, poached pear, peaches in cream, kiwi and pineapple with some notes earthy oakiness. Peaches linger in the hot medium long finish.
Paired with southwestern grilled tuna, which worked great!

Lightly chilled, opened 30 minutes before drinking. As per my last note, this continues to be an excellent wine. Fairly deep gold colour. On the nose there's butter, honey, dried fruit and a good balance of acidity. The palate is rich, full, intense with tangerine fruit. Long finish.

I followed the suggestion of recent reviews to decant. I enjoyed it but a tad less than the 2018 I had recently which had a bit more fruit. Also the oak was more present here (maybe that overshadowed the fruit). I’m splitting hairs a bit as this followed the typical ridge Chardonnay profile that I always enjoy.

Day after tasting note. I recall this as having a heavy buttered popcorn nose, glycerol on palate, high alcohol, some sweetness.
I didn't like this anywhere near as much as I had in the past. This is probably due to hedonic creep as manifested on my palate. The wine was powerful, but doesn't have enough complexity to offset that power, like an Aubert or an older-school Kistler. Maybe it should just be appreciated as a simple wine? But it was too powerful to be simple and subtle, like a bourgogne. So it lives in a no-man's land. I felt like it was a more refined Rombauer.
It's a well crafted wine but my tastes are changing, and with that I don't expect to be buying more of this. That's fine! Everyone's mileage varies.

White gold with green highlights. Citrus rind, honey, and a little smoky wood on the nose. There's a bit of heat (14.2% alc.) but not really distracting. Rich, lovely satiny mouthfeel. Hint of butter, citrus rind again, green apple. Fruit tends toward yellow tropical - mango and pineapple, and ends with pomelo/grapefruit. Some bready notes if you dig deep. Pretty ripe but not sweet. Good length. Put together really well. Chardonnay isn't my favorite grape, but this one is so good and real easy to drink. Enjoyable now, but I think can age a couple of years. Excellent.

This is one of the best chardonnays I've tasted for a while, hence the high score. Bright greeny/lime colour. The nose gives the impression this is a classy wine and the palate doesn't disappoint. It's quite rich, appley, buttery, complex with a hint of caramel on the finish. It is very reminiscent of a Meursault or Montrachet, complex, well balanced.

There’s something deeply annoying about this wine. Expensive, and from a maker I cherish. Yet the flavors are unbalanced — both hot and sharp, with a deep hole of a metallic, cough-drop-like flavor that permeates from beginning to end. At least tolerable on the second day under argon. Flawed but not in a way that I recognize. Maybe others can help. Does Ridge only do red wines well?

Meh, OK. Fair amount of oak. Kind of disjointed. For the price I was underwhelmed. There are quite a few $35 to $40 Cali charts that are better. I wish I could say more about the wine but there was nothing really distinctive to point out.

Disappointing, considering the renown of this producer and the great quality of the estate Cabernet and Merlot. While this Chardonnay is faultless in its acidity, structure, and balance there is little going on aromatically or on the palate, and little else to hold one’s attention. Mute. Focused, but not intense - an exercise in balance without complexity. The only reason to purchase this wine is to retain access to the Monte Bello futures program. Consumed over four hours, little change through this period. Too young?

Very well made Californian Chardonnay. Nose filled with butter, some mineral and saline notes, a little bit of vanilla and yellow apple. On the palate, medium-bodied resembling of the fattiness you find in white burgundy. Medium acidity, dry and with slightly more alcohol than its French counterparts which you notice somewhat in the finish. Delicious now but can age for at least another five years.

My Favorite California Chardonnay year in and out. Figured I'd try a bottle since I have a couple more in the cellar. Decanted for a few hours based on previous experience to let the oak blow off a bit, the normal creamy notes were hard to find on day 1, but showed up more on day 2. Will plan to give my next 2017 a try somewhere around 2022.

This is young, and showing too much oak/alcohol for my preference. That said, I can see how this is appealing. The nose shows coconut and a hint of vanilla, spice, baked apple, poached pear, some floral notes, and just a hint of exotic fruit with pineapple and mango. The palate is rich and full, noticeable alcohol for me, but not bad and the acidity is nicely judged. In the vein of Cali Chardonnay, this is good, not as good as an HDV I tried recently, but has development potential. Probably wouldn't buy this if I wasn't required to as part of the Monte Bello membership, but still well made wine.

100% estate grown grapes from Santa Cruz mountains. The wine is aged in a majority American and a little French oak. This full-bodied Chardonnay is not for the light-hearted, a lot less in your face compared to the 2014. This had tropical fruits, vanilla bean and nutmeg on the nose. The palate was rich yet elegant with pineapple, peach and well-balanced acidity which kept the palate interested in another sip. No longer a butter explosion this has gone back to its roots.

I’m not a big fan of Chardonnay but as a Monte Bello futures member, I receive a Ridge Estate Chardonnay as part of my mandatory allocation. The 2017 was a pleasant surprise. With only 10% new oak it is definitely oak neutral. It has a refreshing combination of pineapple and citrus, a little honeysuckle and a long elegant finish with understated acidity. I tasted this at Ridge’s Monte Bello component tasting last week and despite not being a Chardonnay fan ordered another 3 bottles.
The nose showed crushed stone, oyster shell, young peach, yellow florals and spice. On the palate, I found soft-silky textures, with zesty, ripe yellow stone fruits and brisk acids, giving way to saline-minerals, and sweet inner floral tones. The finish was long as oily textures slowly faded amidst hints of apple, peach and sweet herbs.

Very good but needs some time to settle down. I would wait at two years before opening another one of these, to permit the oak time to integrate with the ample, ripe fruit.

Forward aromas of peach, acacia flowers, with a hint of white pepper. Full bodied on the palate with deeply charged fruit on a sparkling acid base moving into a lingering finish. Classic, redolent of golden hills, lovely. 50 + 17 + 17 + 8 = 92.

One of the best Ridge Chardonnay Estates, which far too often suffers from tropical flavors that overwhelm the palate, in years. The 2017 features stone fruits, white flowers, light oak, and burnt matchstick. This is classic California Chardonnay, buttery smooth and creamy on the palate. Long acidic finish. You can drink this now.

Ridge Monte Bello Tasting (Ridge Monte Bello, Cupertino): Did not strike me as much as previous vintages of this Chardonnay have. For the price, I don't think the value is there. 84

Engaging nose of pineapple and tropical fruits, with a soft buttery backbone. Drank very well as a young wine.

Dream Big - Discover California Wine Tasting (Stockholm, Gamla Riksarkivet (old government archives building) March 2019): Fruity, has some oak but less noticeable than on the Monte Bello Chardonnay, light and fresh. Recommended.
