Still drinking well after some time to open up; little of the getting port-ish issue Turkey's with some age can get. Blueberry, blackberry fruit, shy of jammy. Black pepper. Long finish.

Structured, dark garnet red fruit. Have found the '17 Turley's to have a lot of intensity and this followed suit. Unfurled a bit with air in the glass but tasted younger than its bottle age. A pretty pair for pizza and related on a nice summer's eve patio. Enjoyed this one.

Received a partial bottle to try from my Oenophile neighbor, who has given me several different (partial) bottles of Turley to sample. I've been wanting to try their Pesanti Vineyard in Paso Robles (I have yet to find a Turley I Didn't Like or that wasn't a 90 point contender).
Served with meatloaf and salad.
Dense Purple-Red on the pour. Full-bodied, Bold with Red Fruit on the nose. Cherries and Raspberries on the palate, along with pomegranate. Elevated alcohol (15.8%) did not overpower the tasting. Full, round mouth-feel with spicy notes of pepper. Prominent tannins leave a touch of fuzziness on the tooth. Pleasant lingering finish left a bit different after-taste; perhaps graphite, or, Briar. A Turley; did not disappoint.

(Tasting With Friends) From a certified organic vineyard planted in the 1920s, this offering seemed disjointed at this tasting. Same gutsy fruit and spice we’ve come to expect from the Pesenti site. But less integrated than my previous tasting at the winery. My #4 of 5. Drink up. Pass.

Good drinking spot now but can still go another five years. Very delicate for a zin, but a 93 because of its very long finish and velvety soft mouthfeel. Decanted and let breath for two hours. Spectator’s review is very accurate.

2 hour decant Pretty in the glass, nose, and on the palate. Med+ body, ripe fruit but below cloying. black rasberry. A hint of briary notes but we'll hidden. 15.5% a bit hot on finish but does add a pleasant s some bite. Probably at the limit on my sweetness scale, a bit feminine for me, but went down super easy and enough acid to keep it from being too round. Summary a nice tasty zinnthat does not need food. I would buy pesenti again but would probably enjoy it more in an agressive vintage. I have the 18 and 19 but have not tasted them yet.

Last bottle of this vintage in the cellar.....down a notch from previous. Right from the pnp, this is lighter in weight and redder in fruit (pretty typical for '17 all over Cali), but much more so than other bottles. Taste profile typical of other bottles. The riveting Pesenti (high toned) acidity is still there but now a good bit out of balance with the rest of the wine's elements. Still enjoyable for us Pesenti addicts but not sorry to see this is my last of the '17s.

Not that great at the pnp, 88?.....thin, red fruited, lacks a certain purpose. However, 2-3 hours in and it's a beauty. The wine deepens vertically, the fruit darkens and deepens, the barrel spice becomes more evident. While I'm not a fan of '17 Cali wines in general, some are quite good if given airtime. The bracing acidity of the Pesenti vineyard gives life to this wine, but a minimum of 2 hours air is needed to improve the entire package. One other thing to note.....each successive bottle is scoring lower which to me is expected and a sign of the heat damaged '17 Cali vintage. I don't see any point in aging this vintage any further. Drink them, but give them air to shine.
Along with a vintage bottle of Roederer’s L’Ermitage, I always open a Zinfandel on the 4th of July. Perfect pairings for grilling out and a relaxed day!
I’ve had the Pesenti a few times now (this is my first with the 2017), and it’s always a different beast to me than other Turley zins. In fact, I’m consistently shocked this is a Paso zin as I’d expect this to taste 2-3times as intense. I decanted for two hours, and then consumed over the next 2-3. Ruby in the glass, immediately on the nose this is spicy. Potpourri, black peppered black cherries, underripe raspberries and blackberries, and cedar on the nose. The body is nowhere near as rich as you’d expect, and the acidity is really nice and nervy. It lends to the profile having a spicy and tart mid palate. Rhubarb and peppercorn crusted pomegranate dominate here. It wears its mid 15ABV well. Would be curious to see how this changes with age…
Dark ruby color. Spicy raspberry, black cherry, tangy cranberry. Some chalkiness and purple flowers. This wine reminds me of a Rhone blend wirh the high tone red fruit and darker undertones. Really delicious. Finding the Pesenti is one of our favorite vineyards in the Turley arsenal! As we finished the bottle it transitioned into more secondary or tertiary flavors with anise and bay leaf.
92-93 wine, still young. Fig, pomegranate, raspberry and blueberry flavors. The mouth is not heavy and overly oaky like many zinfandels. Wait 1-2 years before opening next bottle.
The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like fig and coffee. It tastes like coffee, peach and chocolate. The body is medium/full. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

(Tasting at the Templeton winery) From a certified organic vineyard planted in the 1920s on limestone offers up a generous bouquet of roses, lilacs and chalk. Gentle upon entry and building power on the palate followed by a generous toast and licorice finish. A real Wow! wine. Textbook Zin. Outstanding! Drink now to 2035.
Not that great chilled at the pnp, maybe a 89-90. However, at room temp and with an hour or two of air, this blossoms an easy 92-93. Nose is a bit closed, slight briar, earth. Trademark Pesenti acidity and blackberry fruit along with the requisite white pepper/spicebox. Nice.......not jammy, not overbearing. For a '17, with oppressive heat during the growing season, this is quite good.
Camphor and pen ink on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, raspberry, blackberry, and notes of plum and black pepper on the medium finish, with light tannins and good acidity on the medium finish, and a touch of alcoholic heat. This was a good value at a little under $50.

SweeTart on the nose with raspberry and bright fruits. This high-alcohol wine seemed a bit volatile on the palate with a bit of harshness and leather on the finish. This wine might need a bit more time in the bottle or more aeration upon opening.

High alcohol. Great after breathing for an hour. A bit metallic before the hour. A decent Zin. It I think would have been better to cellar a couple more years.
Meaty at first, opens up fairly quickly into a deliciously complex, flavorful somewhat fruit-forward mid-palate of mostly of black fruit with some typical Zinfandel jam; soft tannins and smooth, with a medium to long finish.

Powerful, acidic, bracing wine with rich red and black fruit flavors and the dustiness that would come from a cloud of crushed sweet tarts. A very stern first sip leads to a mouth filling wonder of acidity, fruit, minerality, and finishing with a nice, warm, comforting finish. Enjoy it
Wow. Terrific zin. Pesenti is quickly becoming an all time favorite. Beautiful high tone fruit - cranberry, raspberry, and cherry. Definitely fruit forward, but more complexity and subtlety with pepper and other herbal notes. But the acid and balance is just so much finesse. Glad we have more and will buy more bottles next time.

Excellent showing. Really should have held onto this bottle longer, but c’est la vie. Still a wonderful and expressive nose to it. Really a lot blackberry and black cherry to it; maybe a little blueberry there as well. Palate has a nice mix of raspberry, blackberry, black currant, and some black pepper to it. There is a good spice to it. Decently high in alcohol content. Really very well balanced. An excellent Zin!
Color, clarity and body was good. Cherry and blueberries upfront to Middle. Slight spice middle to end. The finish is not that long but nice. Easy drinking, and can pair with anything.

Double decanted for 1 hour, med. purple, raspberry & spice, med. tannins, med/long finish; delicious, drink or hold. I love Pesanti & just ordered my 18s!
I must say, I was a tad worried about '17, not just because of record heat and fires in Napa, but also figuring the heat would affect the Paso region badly as well. Well, I guess since Paso is so often bathed in heat, those vines are used to it and play very well in it. This is my first of the '17 Paso vineyards cracked open so here goes.......
I must preface this by saying both Pesenti and Ueberroth are my fav Turley vineyards in Paso. This has classic Pesenti acidity with brambly fruit, cherry and raspberry. Great from the pnp, the fruit may be just a tad less strong than '14 or '15, but as always an hour of air brings it out and all together so much better. I didn't get much heavy alcohol at this time and the profile is as good as any Pesenti vintage in recent memory. Happy to see that my bet on Paso was a good one for '17.
Always look forward to each fall and my Turley allotment. This is the first of the 2017s that I’ve tried and I’m certainly intrigued. Popped and decanted, but really didn’t need anytime to open up. Big nose of dark fruit and the palat follows suit with some mild spice. Although heavy on the alcohol, it was complimentary in my opinion. Tannins and acid suggest it’s got some potential to age, but best drunk within the next decade. Overall, a very good Paso Zinfandel for sure!

Soft, nice drink for any type of wine drinker. Good berry flavors start to finish. Not complex Just good juice!
