Blind tasted with Cambria Katherine's 2018 and Beringer Napa 2017. Nice ripe chardonnay style--a little more "interesting" than the others. Would buy again.

While not over the top with oak and buttery malolactic flavors, this wine does gravitate in that direction. Rich green fruits (pear, apple, quince), some tropical fruit, and a backbone of oak/malo influence (butterscotch, marshmallow, toast, oak). Not the style I personally enjoy. Others in the group liked it substantially more.

Widely available and therefore a good choice for a Zoom tasting with the Saturday group. Apple and fig to start, turning more tropical as it warms in the glass. Medium-bodied. Nice fruit on the palate, here again rather tropical in nature. Carries the oak well enough.

Floral and tropical on the nose. Reminds me of Fruit Loops. Butter cream, pineapple, pear and cantaloupe. Highly acidic, hides the high level of alcohol in the mouth though the burn in the throat is noticeable. Initial flavours of peach, nectarine and pineapple turn quickly to heavy cream. The finish is interesting and delicious, like peach yogurt.

US wines in Honolulu: A bottle consumed over two evenings. Mid gold colour. A lactic bouquet of creamy oak, pears, ripe pineapple, grapefruit, peaches and a little bruised yellow apple. Similar on palate. B road shouldered, very opulent and full. Plenty of depth and concentration. Tangerines, peaches and pineapple. To my palate, insufficient acidity. Alcohol at 14.5% ABV, too high, although not too evident on palate. It finished on a whipped cream, buttered almond brioche note and also a strange (apricot pit) astringency (perhaps, a winemaker's element, trying to make up for the lack of acids?)

This is our go to buttery chardonnay which has always been my wifes favorite. Style has not changed in a number of years, although I will say 2017 has been my fave from the last 2 or 3 vintages. The Wagners know their fans and year in and year out stay pretty consistent. Our Caymus of chards!

Definitely panders to fans of the full-on buttery and oaky style, but I like that now and then (and my wife loves it). This struck me as a bit more elegant than other vintages I have tasted. Very nice.
