Wow, very surprised by this one. Needs a bit of decanting or breathing, but really amazing. Classic spicyness of a Gigondas but surprisingly smooth finish. Tobacco, tar, currant all come to mind. Delicious

This has massively improved in the last few years. Great winemaking. Chinese plums, liquorice and star anise. Not dense but sweet and rich in the mouth with powdery tannins and lingering finish. Better in 3yrs - tannins tasty! Serve cool and with food - spicy, BBQ, Mexican are good matches. 92pts now

The first bottle, 6 months ago, was grapey and pretty much not worthy of the XV label. This was much better, but low on acid for my taste. However, this low score doesn’t affect my orientation that I’ll buy pretty much everything of Xavier Vignon that I can get my hands on.

The 2016 vintage continues to show well, and this was an enjoyable Gigondas. Decanted an hour and the wine softened appreciably, although it still warrants food pairing and doesn’t feel like a standalone sipper. Delicious with roasted chicken and a truffle risotto.

Big, bold wine that is not over the top thanks to a refreshing minerality. Can be drunk now, but could improve in the next two years. Great value too, as I've just noticed that the wine is available at a 20% discount for the (then best) price I had paid a couple of years ago.

Lovely Gigondas! Sweet ripe Grenache fruit without turning jammy. There is enough acidity here and a fine mineral component that makes it very appealing. Elegant tannins and long finish. Just a touch alcoholic on the finish. Ready for drinking. No need to wait. - 91 points

Black cherry colour; very deep and rich. Black cherry, blackberry, garrigue, purple plum, black slate and ink on the nose. Even a bit of raspberry. Full bodied, ripe and plush, big and bold, perfect level of alcohol and tannin to balance this out. Big black and bold fruit flavours similar to the nose, with added layers of minerals and clay. Dry, but all the fruit and alcohol gives the impression of off dry. Mouth coating, long fruity finish. Quite hedonistic!

Deep ruby. Dark fruits, dried cranberries, savoury nose/palate. I don’t think that this has improved since tasted last year, but still drinking well and very good wine. Probably will continue to drink well for another 4/5 years.

Dark ruby. Plums, damsons, dark fruits nose. Very well balanced, well integrated tannins. Dark fruits on the palate with some dried fruits. I think that this may still improve. I will revisit next year. Excellent wine.

Big, gutsy and savoury - this has black fruit at its core, but there’s a real earthy, bramble character that comes forward from the glass- still a baby

Round, forward and juicy, with a plushness to the ripe, dark red fruits, the wine blends 80% Grenache with 7 %Mourvedre 5% Syrah, 4% Muscardin and 4%, Picpoul Noir.
