  • just wow! second and unfortunately last bottle, bought at the winery in 1979, level uppermost shoulder, 5cm long cork that would be a credit to a Grand Cru Classé, totally unusual for that time in Australia, decanted 2+ hours and benefited from the air, colour still vibrant, some brown but remarkably little for age, there are even still the slightest hints of purple, nose just superb aged Cabernet, eucalyptus, cassis, still rich and powerful but now with the restraint and complexity of age, palate with great depth and length, still rich concentrated sweet fruit, distinct tannin at finish giving bite and lift, lovely persistent aftertaste, just a brilliant, almost 50 year old wine, a privilege to drink

  • Cork crumbly, level uppermost shoulder, black-red with brown rim, amazing condition for an Australian cabernet at 45 years of age, nose still powerful rich sweet fruit, not at all decrepit, lovely in fact if a little one-dimensional, palate also with rich powerful sweet fruit, now really smooth but still lively and fresh, excellent balance, quite amazing, gets extra points for longevity
