  • 375ml opened for 13 days, stored at 35F on progressively growing shoulders, brought up to 60F this note is based on the last 3 oz of the bottle.
deep purple high viscosity ( this glass also had fine sediment- ha ha)
nose: fig, prune, black cherry, cola, hints of brown spice and some alcohol, and red beet
palate: sweet without being syrupy, bright acidity, high tannin, ripe black fruit , black olive and red pepper (rotundone not methoxypyrazines), vanilla and just a hint of licorice - marion berry finish with a slight salinity and clean acidity—> perfect

I prefer port while the fruit is still ripe/bright but this wine is way too young to drink now. Based on my experiment, I’m going to give my other bottles at least 10 more years ( 2033 seems so far away)

BTW in it’s current state this wine is amazing with Iberico cheese, ok with 70% cocoa and not as good with blue cheese or walnuts

  • A beautiful young port, a real pleasure to drink. Buy this one while it's cheap, it won't stay at these prices. Wow, what a crowd pleaser!

  • Superb! Black cherry and other slightly sweet dark fruit with an aromatic nose with a hint of cedar. Very smooth, not overly sweet. Seemed more like a slightly sweet amazing complex red wine than a typical port.

  • Side by side, Fonseca, Taylor Fladgate & Warre’s, the 2017 Warre’s shined brighter compared to others this evening. Deep purple almost black in colour, notes of spices, vanilla, tar, black tea, dark fruits with a never ending thick finish and not as sweat as the other two, this wine can be enjoyed upon release and age effortlessly for 5 decades maybe longer. I won’t be around by then to question that. My great grandchildren will be enjoying this wine maybe their children also. An incredible achievement, bravo!

  • Symington Vintage 2017 Presentation (NewWerkTheater, Amsterdam, NL): Quinta da Cavadinha 44%, Quinta do Retiro 31%, Quinta da Telhada 17%, Quinta do Alvito and Quinta das Netas 8%. Touriga Nacional 22%, Touriga Franca 15%, old mixed vines (field blend) 63%. TA 4.5 g/l, Baumé 3.7. Bottled May 2019. Wonderfully aromatic nose, violets and spices and black cherries, more power and weight than usual, but with a very elegant and flowing palate, lovely citrus notes, excellent length. A real winner in this vintage.
