  • Drank because the 2019’s are not ready yet and deciding how many 2021’s to buy.

  • Aromatic wafts of blackberry, fresh asphalt and iron. In mouth the wine is still fresh and not 6 years old. I get huge amounts of casssis, tobacco leaf, bay leaf and back end cherry in mouth.

Such a great wine which ends in that familiar dusty mouthfeel. Lots of residue in the finish. Lovely and worth enjoying.

  • Smooth. Herbaceous.

  • Probably the best 17 ive had. This has plush fruits with lots of dark cherry and some blueberry, with hints of minerality, but much less than other vintages as this is more fruit forward. You would never know this is a cool vintage as there are no green notes (nor any smoke taint). I am really impressed with the quality here and i might need to reassess and open some of these outpost’s earlier.

  • Upon opening the graphite nose is very inviting but even after 2-3 hours the alcohol is quite strong. Black and blue fruits with graphite and tobacco notes. Last glass was after 10h + of air and it was quite spectacular. Probably needs 3-5 years in bottle or a very long decant!

  • Bright red fruit. Dusty mountain fruit. Rich and delicious

  • Similar to previous bottles.

  • Similar to my previous bottle, black and blue fruits, graphite, clove, anise, vanilla, licorice, great balance. Not as complex as previous years but a really good wine. Drank as a PnP and again was ready out of the gate, although did get a little better with 2-3 hours of air.

  • Note: I don't typically touch these Mountain wines for years but I didn't pick up my full allocation and have the opportunity to buy more. So yes, I'm taking one for the team!

Opened along side a bottle of Robert Foley Claret 2010

    Day 1:

PNP-Dark purple and blue fruit in the glass. Still elegant in texture and not over extracted in anyway. Beautiful blue fruit on the nose that is intoxicating. Fresh, balanced, young fruit with no unripe green pepper notes. Medium acid. I would not take this wine for an "Off" vintage. It might be an "Off" vintage for O.P./T.V. and if you are reading this you know how great this wine regardless of the bargain price. I look forward to revisiting the bottle in 24 hours. It has been placed back in the cellar at 54 degrees.

Day 2: Still showing about the same. Plush, not as hot as some of the other wines I've tried from 2017 Napa.

Day 3: Finished like it started. Just a baby.

Opened 2017 Patria Oakville along side of this bottling on day two. Very different in style. Review coming soon.

  • A great wine. I was nervous about picking up the 2017s in light of the vintages, but TRB has outdone himself with this one. I picked up 3, and wish I had picked up my full allotment.

Double decanted after 4 hours. Dark purple mountain fruit - mostly blackberry with a bit of blue notes. Very big mouthfeel, velvety. The nose is amazing. 30 second finish that makes you want to keep drinking.

  • Very good as a PnP, dark cherry, strawberry, rhubarb, cinnamon, cassis, clove, tree bark, vanilla, great velvety texture and balance. Not nearly as good as prior years but it’s very good.

  • This was one of my top 3 favorites during last night James Suckling "GREAT WINES OF THE WORLD" held in Miami. This wine is very dry with tons of tannin and structure to get much better in 3-10 years. The body is medium+, several species combine with minerals. The oak is a bit over the top right now which will integrate soon. The finish is very firm, not too long. I will hold and see the evolution of this baby...

  • Tasted at the winery pre-release but from bottle. We were not able to decant and the bottle started at cellar temperature.
Nose was already intense and complex.
Flavors- bold, solid tannins. Tongue coating and intense. Herbs and forest. Condensed blueberries, blackberry. Super long finish with an initial sharp edge. Drinking from the bottle 10 hours later the tannins had evolved to a supple sweetness.
Overall amazing- was able to taste it in close proximity to some top WA100 wines and this stood up to them- feels like the professional review previews missed the mark on this one. This should be yet another classic Howell Mtn cab from Outpost. 97+
