  • At best I'm neutral about this, others didn't seem to mind it. This came across as another confected zin, something made to a specific flavour profile. It tastes like a lot of other mass market zins which at least cost a bit less.

    Some name confusion cause they also produce a brand called Knotty Vines. In 2017 Rodney Strong changed the name of this Zinfandel to Old Vines. This wine gets its name from the 15 acres of Zin vines from 1904, but at this price point, I don't think a lot of those grapes are destined for this $30 offering. RS mentions that they harvest grapes from mostly 30+-year-old vines.

    Plum, vanilla, espresso, blackberry cobbler, black pepper, five-spice, oak, a touch of chalk.
